“NEWS AT NINE” with ANDREA & WDIV-TV Financial Guru

Many years ago I learned my craft at Emerson College in Boston, which specializes in Theater, Speech, and Mass Communications. While there, I met friends who are dear to me to this day.

One of them is Rod Meloni the financial editor at WDIV-TV Detroit.
Tonight, Rod breaks from his full schedule to join us on Blog Talk Radio with his considered opinion of the volatile stock market, our alarming national debt, and Congress’ stimulus package. (We’ll probably reminisce a little too.)

We might also have a surprise drop in “appearance” by another Emerson Alum, a published author with her own popular TV show.CALL IN NUMBER IS 646-478-4604.

BON BONS & POTTY MOUTHS tonight at 9 with ANDREA

I must be one of the most popular gals in Florida — at least among those wooing me for my vote!

In less than twenty-four hours, I’ve been phoned by former Senator Jack Kemp and Sen. John McCain, telling me why McAmnesty deserves my support at the polls next Tuesday, Primary Day.

Bay Buchanan rang me up — twice — telling me why she supports Mitt Romney, and why I should too.

Waiting to hear next from Huckabee and Giuliani with their sweet talk and proposals.

Brown rang my doorbell with a box of Godiva Chocolates today. I fully expected them to be from one of the candidates! (They weren’t.)

And like many a fickle suitor offering hearts and flowers, once he “has his way with me” (i.e. gets my vote), he’ll be off to his next conquest (Super Tuesday).

The political season in the Sunshine State is at full fever pitch. “I’m in a spin… lovin’ the spin that I’m in… it’s that ol’ Black Magic called — politics!”

***
South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint was scheduled to be with us on tonight’s program, but had to cancel due to travel scheduling. He will join us this Sunday night though.

So, while what’s left of the GOP field of candidates “debate” at Florida Atlantic University on MSNBC, we’ll be talking tonight with Dr. Gary Cass, Chairman and CEO of the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission about ESPN’s anchorwoman Dana Jacobson bigoted, anti-Christian tirade at a recent ESPN function.

Speaking at an event in Atlantic City, N.J., to honor ESPN Radio personalities Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic, Jacobson let go with vulgar remarks like “F— Notre Dame,” “F— Touchdown Jesus” and finally “F— Jesus.”

“The hypocrisy and double standards are outrageous,” Dr. Cass says. He’s got plenty more to say about it, and we’ll give him the opportunity tonight at 9 p.m.

After that, we’ll move on to the campaign trail where we’ll take a look at the numbers — polling and otherwise. Join us. We start at 9 p.m. EST.

FLORIDA STRAW POLL AND SELWYN TONIGHT at 9 with Andrea

I was the invited guest speaker at this morning’s Cocoa Beach Republican women’s club meeting.

I told them how I detest the way the media and the Left are determining who our Republican presidential candidate will be through their control of the debates and the first four primaries and caucuses. I shared my suggestions for how it should be changed. (”Change, change, change. Change the fools… “) Twenty solid minutes of how I’d change the political election world. Heh…

Following a Q & A session, I made my departure and this little group of the Space Coast Federation of Republican Women (and some men) then took a straw poll.

Club president Nancy sent the results to me. I wonder if it might be a microcosm of how Florida will vote in our primary on the 29th?

1 vote for Huckabee
1 vote for McCain
1 vote for Paul
5 votes for Thompson
8 votes for Guiliani
22 votes for Romney

We’ll be back to compare these results with the finals on Primary night. Stay tuned…

On tonight’s internet radio webcast we’ll be talking to the brilliant Selwyn Duke, national columnist whose works appear on The American Thinker, News with Views, World Net Daily, and other conservative journals of note.

Selwyn was with us for the final half hour of last Sunday night’s program, and we got on so well I invited him back for a return engagement. We’ve got him for the full hour tonight. We’ll be talking about the presidential campaign, the political landscape, conservatism, and whatever else comes to mind. Do join us! We get underway at 9 p.m. EST.

AN INSIDER’S LOOK AT THE CAMPAIGN, THE POLITICS, THE DIRT - tonight at 9 EST with Andrea

Sometimes things just fall right into your lap. It happened to me this afternoon.

I was lining up guests for Sunday night’s show. During a telephone conversation with the campaign chief of one of our presidential candidates, he dropped the name of a former US Senator who now makes his home in Florida. When I expressed an interest in interviewing him for the WDBO show, he gave me the Senator’s telephone number.

I followed up with a call and asked if he might be interested in appearing on the program. When he accepted my invitation, we chatted a while longer in sort of an informal and preliminary interview in preparation for Sunday night.

To say it was a fascinating phone conversation would be an understatement. In fact, there was so much insider political ground covered, I immediately invited him to join me on tonight’s radio webcast. He must have been enjoying the conversation as much as I was because he readily and enthusiastically agreed !

So tonight, we will be joined by former Republican US Senator Bob Smith, who has served in both the House and the Senate, representing the state of New Hampshire. Yes, the same state whose primary voters chose Her Royal Pantsuit and Sen. John McAmnesty

Sen. Smith has some very interesting observations about the current field of candidates, the primary and caucus process, the political landscape, and where all the bodies are buried.

And he’s willing to share it with us!

As a Vietnam veteran, Smith helped create, and served as vice-chairman of, the 1991–1993 Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs. Smith was reelected in 1996 and served until 2003. In his 1996 reelection campaign he defeated Democrat Dick Swett with 49% of the vote. Smith had established himself as the most conservative Senator from the Northeast, and Bill Clinton’s coattails nearly caused his defeat. The campaign’s most famous incident occurred on election night when several networks (most notably Dan Rather on CBS) claimed that Swett had won, and were then forced to admit their mistake later.

Don’t miss it — I’m guessing this will be an interesting program for all you political junkies, and anyone else who wants to know what’s cooking (or who’s cooking who) in the cloakrooms!

“I’VE LOST IT” says a pitiful voiced Andrea

I’ve lost MY VOICE! Laryngitis has overtaken me and I am silenced for the
day — maybe even two.

Now some of you might be tempted to offer up a chorus of “Hallelujahs”!
Heh…

But for the rest of you who tune in to my weeknight internet radio webcast
at 9 (Mondays thru Thursdays), well… I’ve arranged for alternate
programming: The Presidential “Debate” on TV tonight at 9. And I’ll be right here at Heading Right , participating in the live blogging of the debate that Ed Morrissey will be hosting.

That’s what I’ll be doing as I sip hot tea and honey. That, and watching the
candidates try to not step in it.

My voice should be back by Sunday night’s show on WDBO AM 580, when we’ll be talking with some interesting folks… Watch for more on that to come later this week.

In the meantime, my hands can still type, so check out my latest posts on

Andrea’s Eyes on the Granite State Primary tonight at 9

DRUDGE has the alert flashing at his site this afternoon, blasting the news that New Hampshire’s secretary of State is worried about running out of voter ballots in today’s Primary race.

We’re keeping a sharp eye on the developments in that state’s voting results, and when we go on the internet stream tonight at 9, the polls will have been closed for an hour.

Opening the program tonight — our man on the ground in Manchester John Pratt who will be coming to us live from the Clinton Campaign HQ. He’s our eyes and ears and will have the very latest for us, as it looks like Obama is about to slam Hillary to the mat once more.

Later in the show, we’ll be talking to Gardner Goldsmith, a fixture in New Hampshire radio, who’ll give us a Granite State perspective on the primary, the candidates, and the libertarian leanings of his fellow New Hampshire residents.

Goldsmith, a local columnist, hosts a statewide radio program and is the co-author of a new book Live Free Or Die.

Don’t miss it! The NH Primary Night party gets underway at 9 EST, and the phone lines will be open to pick up where we left off last night with more lively political talk. The “on the air” light begins blinking at 9.

REP. DUNCAN HUNTER TO APPEAR ON THE ANDREA SHEA KING SHOW

REP. DUNCAN HUNTER WILL BE MY GUEST TOMORROW (SUNDAY) NIGHT ON WDBO AM 580 - ORLANDO, FL. DETAILS HERE.

BREAKING NEWS ON THE DEBATE ISSUE (from Michelle Malkin).

NEED I SAY MORE?

NH GOP withdraws as sponsor from Fox News debate

By Michelle Malkin • January 5, 2008 12:55 PM

The Manchester Union Leader is reporting and blogs are buzzing over the NH GOP party’s withdrawal as a sponsor from the Fox News debate tomorrow night. U-L:

12:15 p.m. UnionLeader.com has learned that the New Hampshire Republican Party has quit as a co-sponsor of tomorrow night’s nationally televised GOP forum on FOX News. The event had become controversial when FOX refused to include Ron Paul.

Boston Globe reporting:

The New Hampshire Republican Party dropped their affiliation with a Republican debate sponsored by Fox News tomorrow night because they have limited the number of candidates that can participate.

“The first-in-the-nation New Hampshire primary serves a national purpose by giving all candidates an equal opportunity on a level playing field,” said Republican chair Fergus Cullen. “Only in New Hampshire do lesser known, lesser funded underdogs have a fighting chance to establish themselves as national figures.

Tonight’s ABC News back-to-back debates will include Iowa caucus winner Mike Huckabee, John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson, Mitt Romney and Ron Paul at 7pm and Democrats Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, John Edwards and Bill Richardson after the GOP event.

Denny K is going after Disney/ABC for the exclusion.

I’ve been invited to participate tonight in a discussion about our rights and the limits our nation’s founders placed on the federal government.

The conversation will take place at 8 p.m. EST on the radio show “The Halls of Valhalla: American Truth Warriors”. Program host is “A Newt One” and Loki. We’ll also be looking at the post-Iowa Caucus political scene leading up to this week’s New Hampshire primary.

Whether you support Ron Paul for President or not, it isn’t fair to him or the American people that Fox News has decided to eliminate Dr. Paul or Cong. Duncan Hunter — two presidential candidates — from their next debate.

In fact, it is unconscionable.

The excuses Fox News is giving are as flimsy as a feather in a stiff breeze.

First they said it was because the “super bus” they were broadcasting the event from wasn’t big enough to accommodate all the candidates.

NOT BIG ENOUGH???

On the face of it, that has to be the lamest excuse of all. How long has Fox known it was going to host this debate? They couldn’t secure a large enough venue to accommodate ALL the qualified candidates??? Including candidate Alan Keyes, by the way?

The second excuse Fox spokesmen gave is that Duncan Hunter and Ron Paul aren’t polling high enough numbers.

Would someone tell me what polling numbers have to do with their qualifications to run?

They have a campaign infrastructure, don’t they? They have a campaign war chest, don’t they? They filled out the necessary paperwork and formally announced their candidacy, didn’t they?

And oh by the way, might their poll numbers (a dubious metric at best) be low because the media hasn’t paid them as much attention as their so called “top tier” candidates whose poll numbers reflect the maximum exposure afforded them by the big media??

Ron Paul, Duncan Hunter, and yes, even Dr. Keyes, are viable candidates who last I checked, are still in the race. And because of that, as qualified candidates they have the right to be included whenever and wherever there’s a “debate” before the American people.

The third excuse Fox tried to feed us was there never enough time to get meaningful answers to the debate questions. Are you kidding me? Have we seen a televised debate YET that allowed time enough — or format — to get “meaningful answers??? I mean, “raise your hand” ???

Sweet lovin’ Pete!

We the people should demand every opportunity to hear every candidate’s views, policies, and plans. It’s vitally important to the process that we be able to witness how they react under the pressure of questions and counter arguments. To assess how deep their understanding of domestic and foreign issues. The Constitution. Their responsibilities. How they’d handle unexpected world events. Another terrorism attack. Foreign policy. Limited government. Taxation.

Friends, we are about to elect someone to the highest position in our government at what is the most critical time in our national history since George Washington fought the Revolution.

Lawrence Lindsey observed in “What We Want in a President” on Wednesday’s Wall Street Journal op-ed page:

A process driven by 30-second commercials prepared by the candidates themselves, and so-called debates that ask candidates to explain in 60 seconds how they would bring about world peace or national prosperity, does not help. Nor does media coverage that focuses on whose commercials are moving polling points and who performed well in the last inane debate.

Bob Sullentrup, Founder of Rockthedebates.org says , “We have people dying in Iraq to promote democracy in that part of the world, and in this country, we can’t even have full, open, inclusive debates. There is something fundamentally wrong with that.”

It is censorship, plain and simple. By mainstream media and mainstream politics. And it is dangerous to our republic.

Friends, we the people have the RIGHT — and should DEMAND to hear from every qualified candidate who wants to lead this great nation. WE will be the ones to decide who makes it into the final cut, NOT the TV executives and the minions in political circles.

It’s time to take back our political process. It’s time to take back our responsibilities as an informed electorate. Write to Fox News and let them know we won’t stand for this.

We get underway at 9 p.m. ET. As always the Chat Room doors will be open for you!

EYE ON HAWKEYE CAUK-EYE tonight with Andrea at 9 p.m. EST

Fox News’ Jane Skinner was just told by Fred Thompson in a TV interview from Iowa that the question she asked comparing his schedule to that of John Edwards’ was — essentially — very superficial and not worthy of comment — instead, he said, there are far more important comparisons to be made between him and Edwards….

GOOD FOR HIM!!!! If Fred’s elected, the White House Press Conferences are going to be dee-licious!

Remember his response to the overbearing debate moderator in Des Moines who wanted the candidates to raise their hands? Whoo -hooo! This is just a taste of Fred to come… someone who’ll put the vacuous media morons on notice. Cue the music: There’s a new kid in town. Stand by!

Rich Galen…
“The Iowa Caucuses will be held tomorrow night and there should be some clear results by about 9 p.m. Central time and some clearing of both the Republican and Democratic fields shortly after. Political reporters and insiders say there is absolutely no way to sort out where the Democratic candidates will stack up when the caucusing is over. It all depends on voter turnout…

***

We’ve got our own reporters on the ground in Iowa. That’s right. Marsha Della Giustina, associate professor of broadcast journalism at Emerson College in Boston (and my professional mentor) is herding a gaggle of crack-sharp journalism students in Des Moines who are cutting their chops in the biz chasing down candidates and filing reports. Read them on their website Political Pulse.

One of these young reporters will be calling in at the top of my radio show tonight AND tomorrow night to file their report and give us the inside scoop.

TONIGHT AT 9 - “A CONVERSATION WITH ANDREA AND …

Veteran anti-Clinton activist David N. Bossie has put out a web-based video trailer for his current work in progress, “Hillary, The Movie” a documentary that “aims to expose the truth about her conflicts in the past and her liberal plot for the future” that leads with footage of Obama criticizing the former First Lady.

The clip of Obama shows him criticizing Clinton for “claiming basically the entire eight years of the Clinton presidency as her own, except for the stuff that didn’t work out, in which case she is saying she had nothing to do with it.”

The trailer continues with a compilation of harsh comments about the former First Lady by Tony Blankley, Newt Gingrich, Ann Coulter, Robert Novak and Dick Morris. Morris, who was hired by Bill Clinton as a political consultant several times in the 1980s and 1990s, but who was fired in the 1996 campaign, is the harshest of the group: “She will make up any story, will lie about anything, as long it serves her purpose at the moment. And the American people are going to catch on to it.”

As it prepares to release its hard-hitting political documentary, Hillary: The Movie, Citizens United, a grassroots advocacy organization, led by election law attorney James Bopp, Jr., last week filed suit against the Federal Election Commission, arguing that issue-oriented television ads are protected by the First Amendment and should not be subject to disclosure requirements under McCain-Feingold campaign finance law.

At issue are sections of the 2002 Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (“McCain-Feingold”) that imposed a blackout period before elections on television advertisements that mentioned the name of a federal candidate — “electioneering communications.”

Bopp joins us on tonight’s internet webcast program to discuss Citizens United’s court challenge that argues the ads for the film Hillary: The Movie are commercial ads, exempted in recent FEC rulemaking, and that disclosure requirements cannot be applied to such ads consistent with the First Amendment.

EMBED DAD WRITES ABOUT WAR HIS SON IS FIGHTING TONIGHT AT 9 EST WITH ANDREA

“It’s hard to go about your everyday business knowing your son is in harm’s way, but documenting first-hand accounts of their battles helped me cope.”

So wrote Prof. Andrew Lubin in his book Charlie Battery; A Marine Artillety Unit in Iraq — the story of his son and his battery fighting in the initial invasion back in ‘03.

But this isn’t a book just about battles. It’s about a unique perspective of the war, not only from the front lines, but also from the home front.

“It’s about war. It’s about Marines. It’s about family,” Lubin says. Readers learn what it was like from those who experienced it – and from their loved ones back home who watched it unfold live on television.

Lubin’s son has been deployed twice since and has re-upped for another tour this summer.

Lubin himself was embedded in Beirut last summer, in Iraq during October ‘06, and then spent Jan-May of this year in Iraq and Afghanistan. He says with luck and financing he’ll be returning Jan - March.

Andy Lubin was awarded the 2007 Gold Medal by Military Writers Society of America and is a member of the USMC Combat Correspondents Association. He specializes in history, current events, and international relations.
