“NEWS AT NINE” with ANDREA & WDIV-TV Financial Guru

Many years ago I learned my craft at Emerson College in Boston, which specializes in Theater, Speech, and Mass Communications. While there, I met friends who are dear to me to this day.

One of them is Rod Meloni the financial editor at WDIV-TV Detroit.
Tonight, Rod breaks from his full schedule to join us on Blog Talk Radio with his considered opinion of the volatile stock market, our alarming national debt, and Congress’ stimulus package. (We’ll probably reminisce a little too.)

We might also have a surprise drop in “appearance” by another Emerson Alum, a published author with her own popular TV show.CALL IN NUMBER IS 646-478-4604.

FLORIDA STRAW POLL AND SELWYN TONIGHT at 9 with Andrea

I was the invited guest speaker at this morning’s Cocoa Beach Republican women’s club meeting.

I told them how I detest the way the media and the Left are determining who our Republican presidential candidate will be through their control of the debates and the first four primaries and caucuses. I shared my suggestions for how it should be changed. (”Change, change, change. Change the fools… “) Twenty solid minutes of how I’d change the political election world. Heh…

Following a Q & A session, I made my departure and this little group of the Space Coast Federation of Republican Women (and some men) then took a straw poll.

Club president Nancy sent the results to me. I wonder if it might be a microcosm of how Florida will vote in our primary on the 29th?

1 vote for Huckabee
1 vote for McCain
1 vote for Paul
5 votes for Thompson
8 votes for Guiliani
22 votes for Romney

We’ll be back to compare these results with the finals on Primary night. Stay tuned…

On tonight’s internet radio webcast we’ll be talking to the brilliant Selwyn Duke, national columnist whose works appear on The American Thinker, News with Views, World Net Daily, and other conservative journals of note.

Selwyn was with us for the final half hour of last Sunday night’s program, and we got on so well I invited him back for a return engagement. We’ve got him for the full hour tonight. We’ll be talking about the presidential campaign, the political landscape, conservatism, and whatever else comes to mind. Do join us! We get underway at 9 p.m. EST.

AN INSIDER’S LOOK AT THE CAMPAIGN, THE POLITICS, THE DIRT - tonight at 9 EST with Andrea

Sometimes things just fall right into your lap. It happened to me this afternoon.

I was lining up guests for Sunday night’s show. During a telephone conversation with the campaign chief of one of our presidential candidates, he dropped the name of a former US Senator who now makes his home in Florida. When I expressed an interest in interviewing him for the WDBO show, he gave me the Senator’s telephone number.

I followed up with a call and asked if he might be interested in appearing on the program. When he accepted my invitation, we chatted a while longer in sort of an informal and preliminary interview in preparation for Sunday night.

To say it was a fascinating phone conversation would be an understatement. In fact, there was so much insider political ground covered, I immediately invited him to join me on tonight’s radio webcast. He must have been enjoying the conversation as much as I was because he readily and enthusiastically agreed !

So tonight, we will be joined by former Republican US Senator Bob Smith, who has served in both the House and the Senate, representing the state of New Hampshire. Yes, the same state whose primary voters chose Her Royal Pantsuit and Sen. John McAmnesty

Sen. Smith has some very interesting observations about the current field of candidates, the primary and caucus process, the political landscape, and where all the bodies are buried.

And he’s willing to share it with us!

As a Vietnam veteran, Smith helped create, and served as vice-chairman of, the 1991–1993 Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs. Smith was reelected in 1996 and served until 2003. In his 1996 reelection campaign he defeated Democrat Dick Swett with 49% of the vote. Smith had established himself as the most conservative Senator from the Northeast, and Bill Clinton’s coattails nearly caused his defeat. The campaign’s most famous incident occurred on election night when several networks (most notably Dan Rather on CBS) claimed that Swett had won, and were then forced to admit their mistake later.

Don’t miss it — I’m guessing this will be an interesting program for all you political junkies, and anyone else who wants to know what’s cooking (or who’s cooking who) in the cloakrooms!

CONGRESS SET TO SCREW US - AGAIN.

Eternal vigilance is the price we pay for liberty. Take a close look.

Our Congress is set to CUT FUNDING to the Border Fence.

Thankfully, some of us are peering through the looking glass (while too many others prefer to remain ignorant in hopes it will all go away…).

Steve Elliott, president of Grassfire Alliance and frequent guest on Fox News, is sounding the alarm about Congress’ duplicity with upcoming action on the border issue. Friends, if we don’t apply pressure on these elitist political jackasses, they’ll screw us again. Here’s how they plan to do it:

“The omnibus Consolidated Appropriations bill includes a little-known provision that guts the major provisions of the Secure Fence Act of 2006.

This provision — buried on page 123 of Division E of the Consolidated Appropriations Act - contradicts the Secure Fence Act’s specific mandate of a double-layer fence covering 854 miles of the U.S-Mexico border.

Grassfire.org has been tracking this provision which was first introduced quietly by Sen. Hutchison this summer as S.Amdt. 2466 to H.R. 2368 (the DHS appropriations bill).

“The Hutchison amendment gives DHS virtually total discretion over how and where the fence is built,” says Grassfire.org President Steve Elliott. “In fact, DHS would not be required to build fencing in any particular location — and the double-layer mandate is totally gone.”

In its report on the “Fence Funding Hoax,” Grassfire has chronicled how the plan to gut the Secure Fence Act was actually hatched the day the bill passed the Senate in 2006. (View that report.)

“I find it odd that such an important amendment which releases DHS from specific requirements of an existing law would be passed by a simple voice vote in the Senate and then buried in the massive omnibus bill,” says Elliott.

“The American people reasonably expect that a double-layer fence will be built but Congress has always had other plans. This amendment should be stripped from the final omnibus bill.”

Steve Elliott joins us tonight on my internet radio program. Doug Gibbs will be along to co-host as he does every Monday night. Please join us for this important program.

AM I THE ONLY AMERICAN WHO THINKS THIS WAY? TONIGHT AT 9 ET with ANDREA

American politics – from both sides of the aisle — is saturated with deceit, half-truths and lies. Big corporations, for example, have influenced our elected officials and the way our government does business,” says tonight’s guest on my radio program. Jim Purcey asks “Is this for the ‘good’ of the American people? I think not.”

Purcey and I will look at the politics that are destroying our nation from within, such as:

• Immigration laws – since when did the idea of actually securing our borders become radical?
• Education – why exactly is our educational system so utterly pathetic?
• Lawyers, guns and money – the right to bear arms laid bare; what most of us don’t realize about this debate teeming with misconceptions
• Why corporations are allowed - even encouraged with tax advantages - to take their business abroad and put Americans out of work
• The outright absurdity of our dependency on foreign oil
• Why so many Americans live in fear of their own government: The IRS is a perfect example

Jim Purcey wants to know…Am I the Only American Who Thinks This Way?

TONIGHT AT 9 - “A CONVERSATION WITH ANDREA AND …

“The war on conservative talk radio has begun,” says Cliff Kincaid, editor of Accuracy in Media. Cliff joins me tonight on Blog Talk Radio.

Accuracy in Media today criticized the Senate Commerce Committee for holding a Thursday hearing on “media diversity” that featured a prominent advocate of the federal Fairness Doctrine, a measure liberals hope to use to silence conservative talk radio. The witness, Alex Nogales of the liberal National Hispanic Media Coalition, used his testimony to attack “hate speech on talk radio programs” and claimed that “more diversity of ownership” in the media would somehow help solve the perceived problem.

While the Fairness Doctrine was not the official subject of the hearing, Kincaid said that “the inclusion of Nogales as an ‘expert’ witness was a signal that the committee wants to move in the direction of using the federal government to muzzle conservative commentators.”

Nogales has openly declared that the Fairness Doctrine should be brought back to counter conservative “hate speech” against “undocumented Latinos” and others. Nogales suggests that “hate speech” leads to “hate crimes” and that broadcasting licenses should only be given to “responsible” parties who provide “varied points of view.” He has gone so far as to label Lou Dobbs of CNN the “father of television hate speech” because of his stand against illegal immigration.

Kincaid said that the appearance of Nogales adds to the suspicion that the real agenda of the committee encompasses federal monitoring, regulation and suppression of conservative political speech on talk radio.

The AIM editor called on the committee to protect freedom of speech by holding a hearing on and passing the Broadcaster Freedom Act, in order to prevent the return of the Fairness Doctrine.

We get underway at 9 p.m. ET. Linkage to the program below:

Re: Dems: No War Funding Until We Figure Out How To Undermine Effort

Perhaps it’s a case of the Democrats feeling that the President is trying to “run up the score” on them.  After their capitulation on Iraq funding last spring, their failure to stampede Republicans into abandoning war support over the summer, and the “Betray-Us” fiasco last month, Crazy Nancy and Dirty Harry are on a significant and demoralizing losing streak on what they believe is the raison d’etere of the majorities they re-captured a year ago.  Now Bush is pressing his advantage by seeking $46 billion more “while the iron is hot” - or, in other words, doing precisely as they would have done in his position - and their resentment boileth over in the only way open to it: childish, short-sighted petulance.

Counting on conditions getting worse in Iraq made sense a year ago, and perhaps even six months ago.  It makes zero sense now.  But the Dems just can’t help themselves.  Which makes Dubya’s fresh Iraq funding request downright Pavlovian.

The Protectors of Illegals Are At It Again

Terry Funderburk goes to court in two days to defend himself against those who are breaking the law by hiring illegals. This during the same week when the US Senate continues to ignore the will of American citizens by screwing us again — this time slipping the Dream Act onto a Labor Appropriations bill.

Last night I received emails from Steve Elliott of Grassfire.org and Roy Beck of NumbersUSA, urging - PLEADING with us to write and call our Senators to tell them — yet again — that we won’t stand for this.

Elliott writes:

I’ve just received stunning news that amnesty Senators are ready to make yet another run at passing the Dream Act as soon as late today or tomorrow!

Three weeks ago we warned this would happen, and here we go.

According to our sources, the Dream Act will again be offered as an amendment to the Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations bill (H.R. 3043) on the Senate floor.

Now read Terry’s email — it’ll set your hair on fire. Or at the least, cause you to worry for your job and your future ability to compete in a market that is being gifted to those who break our law to steal our livelihoods and commit other crimes against us. The Senate continues to ignore the will of the people. CALL YOUR SENATOR NOW!

Did you ever get the feeling that sometimes you should just stay in bed and maybe all the bullcrap would take a day off too? Well, that’s the way I felt yesterday morning. Don’t get me wrong here, I am not talking about feeling sorry for myself, I am talking about all the politically correct crap that has infected this nation. The fear of enforcing the laws, the joys of multiculturalism and the politically correct assholes that control this state and country? Sometimes I think it is better to just stay in bed and pretend that all is right in the world.

Let me tell you what I am talking about, I have a friend, Doug, he drives a public bus for the city of Columbia. He has had this job for 27 years, very religious, and a thoroughly good person. Monday, he pulled into the parking lot where he works and noticed an asphalt company was repaving part of the lot, he also noticed that there were 3 Hispanic males working for this company. He walked over to the guy in charge and asked him why was he employing illegal aliens when there were thousands of Americans workers needing job? Well, guess what happened? Yep, the guy went to Doug’s supervisor and my friend Doug got fired from that job he had for 27 years. It is a travesty.

Yesterday evening we went to some friends home in Camden, the husband asked me how was it going and said he would like to make a suggestion. He said that I should just forget my business and move on to something else. That in his view I was letting racism come into the picture, and that down the road I would regret what I was doing. I wanted to walk out of there at that moment. But I held my ground, this guy works in a civilian capacity at Fort Jackson so he never has to worry about being replaced by people that sneaked into our country. He doesn’t work in the real world that I have to face head on every day. I asked him how could I so easily give up a business that I have been in for 20 years? How can I give up a business that made almost 180 grand last year? He said that sometimes it is better to just walk away.

It is attitudes like that, that has put this country in the position it is in today. Did George Washington just walk away from Valley Forge? Did Abraham Lincoln calmly walk away from what he faced? Did the Marines on Iwo Jima turn around and get back on their ships? No, none of them did. They all did the right things and made this country great. And it is up to every American to stand fast and do the right thing, and that is to take this country back from the sniveling cowards that have hijacked it. They have dishonored those great Americans for their own selfish and narrow ends. And they need to pay a price for it.’

I also talked to my lawyer yesterday about the trial coming up Friday. He said that the homeowner in my case told the prosecutor that I need to plead guilty because if I don’t he plans on bringing charges against me for dirtying his good name. Lol. For accusing him of being cheap and employing illegal aliens. I want to help him refresh his memory a bit here, he told me a month before the incident that international roofers had installed the shingles on his roof for 4 to 5 dollars an hour and that if I wanted to do the copper work then my bid needed to be as low as theirs. Seems to me that he has conveniently forgotten this conversation he had with me. Well, I haven’t, it is forefront in my mind every day that passes by. Here is this bum, living in a 600 grand house and he wants to be greedy and break our laws and then thinks he is in the right. I am going to prove him wrong. I am going to show exactly how cheap he really is in a public forum.

And that is why I am not going to plead guilty, I am going to fight him and every other cheap bastard until I cannot fight anymore. They have brought dishonor onto this country and themselves by their criminal actions and the only thing I am guilty of is exposing it. And I will have some support Friday, about 20 to 25 people will be there standing there beside me, hopefully most of them will have on shirts that say “ENFORCE OUR LAWS!”.

Terry will join me tonight on BlogTalkRadio. We’ve also invited Steve Elliott of Grassfire.org to join us. Program begins at 9 p.m. ET. Click button below to join us.

TONIGHT AT 9 - “A CONVERSATION WITH ANDREA AND …

Ahmadinejad’s pal Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez won’t be at the U.N. General Assembly today, a year after he called President Bush “the devil” during the gathering of world leaders. Is that sulphur I’m smelling?

Chavez is just way too busy at home in Venezuela, so he’s sent his Foreign Minister in his place.

Big Hughie is fluffing up the pillows for an expected visit from Iranian President Mahmoud AhmadinnerJacket later this week, after the pair chatted it up by phone yesterday following Mahmoud’s incoherent ramblings at Columbia University in New York.

“I congratulate him, in the name of the Venezuelan people, before a new aggression of the U.S. empire,” Chavez said, adding that it seemed Ahmadinejad was the subject of “an ambush.”

So relieved that Congress spoke out against The Mad Jihadi’s appearance at the Ivy League Bastion of Liberal Illiteracy. Oh, wait… are those crickets I’m hearing on Capitol Hill?

Well, while Third World tyrants and the Mad Jihadi are yakking it up at the all important United Nations, those same mute members of congress will be watching a documentary about the power grab of dictator Hugo Chavez.

The American Security Council Foundation has produced “Crisis in the Americas” and it includes interviews with Reps. Lincoln Diaz-Balart, Connie Mack, former Rep. Bill McCollum and former Sate Dept Official Otto Reich.

Welcome to the Nanny State — the government’s micromanagement of our daily lives and actions. A place where if, as one cable TV pundit said, they can force you to wear a seatbelt, they can force you to do just about anything.

Everywhere you turn, there’s someone who thinks it’s their inalienable right to dictate how you should live your life. From every level of government and from both sides of the aisle, they argue that paternalistic policies should trump our individual freedoms.

David Harsanyi, an award-winning columnist at the Denver Post, has made a study of the government’s interference in our lives and turned it into a book titled NANNY STATE: How Food Fascists, Teetotaling Do-Gooders, Priggish Moralists, and Other Boneheaded Bureaucrats Are Turning America into a Nation of Children. He’ll be with me tonight ON “A CONVERSATION WITH ANDREA and… ” for a look at the political and cultural crisis going on in America today.

AND…

They’re trying to give amnesty to millions of illegals again!!! This time, trying to sneak it in. They are relentless!

During consideration of the Department of Defense authorization bill (H.R. 1585) this week, open-borders senators may attempt to attach three proposals that, when taken together, would give amnesty to millions of illegal aliens and dramatically increase the importation of foreign workers at a time 10 million Americans are looking for jobs and can’t find employment. The floor vote on the amendment containing the DREAM Act amnesty (SA 2237) may occur as early as tomorrow — Wednesday, September 19.

“The Senate is playing Russian roulette with our nation by invoking cloture and promoting amnesty,” says Chris Simcox, founder and President of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps.

“They are putting a gun to the head of America’s national security and repeatedly pulling the trigger, gambling against the odds that these United States can somehow sustain indefinitely their political games-playing without taking a fatal injury.

There continues to be more maneuvering behind the scenes as we, the taxpayers and legal voting citizens, have been dismissed and ignored.”

Carmen Mercer of the Minutemen Civil Defense Corps will tell us what we can do to halt them in their tracks — again!!!

TONIGHT AT 9 - “A CONVERSATION WITH ANDREA and FL Rep Don Brown re: Getting Rid of Illegals

UPDATE: TONIGHT (WEDNESDAY) AT 9 ET, FLORIDA STATE REP. DON BROWN WILL JOIN ME FOR “A CONVERSATION WITH ANDREA” ON BLOG TALK RADIO. LINKAGE HERE:
Listen Live

Good news for Floridians fed up with the onslaught of illegal aliens in the Sunshine State.

On August 17th, Florida Rep. Don Brown (R-Dist. 5) submitted HB73 into the 2008 Florida Legislative Session.

The bill is modeled after Oklahoma’s law authored by Rep. Randy Terrill, a recent guest on our radio program. That bill passed by overwhelming numbers and was recently signed into law by the Sooner State’s Democrat governor.

Brown, an insurance agent from DeFuniak Springs, represents a five-county area in Florida’s Panhandle.

Florida’s Illegal Immigration bill if passed would go into effect October 1, 2008. It would:

  • Prohibit restrictions on reporting of immigration status information by public employees;
  • Prohibit local government restrictions concerning immigration law enforcement;
  • Require verification of immigration status of persons confined for DUI or BUI;
  • Limit issuance of driver’s licenses to US citizens or persons with specified legal immigration status;
  • Limit duration of specified licenses or identification cards;
  • Require public employer participation in specified federal program to verify work authorization status of newly hired employees;
  • Require participation in program by contractors & subcontractors;
  • Provide that discharge of US citizen or permanent resident alien employee by employer who on date of discharge employed unauthorized alien is unfair trade practice;
  • Prohibit specified actions related to transporting or harboring illegal aliens.

Thousands of illegals are already moving out of Oklahoma in fear of deportation before that state’s tough new law has even taken effect.

Common Sense America keeps a sharp eye on these matters, and it’s worth a click to read what Christi’s written about the sudden mass exodus of illegals from states that are implementing laws that deal severely with illegals and those who hire or harbor them. But don’t stop reading at this post — hit the “home” link and peruse through — it’s an education, believe me.

Oh, and Third Wave Dave has come up with a clever slogan for the exodus of illegals from the State of Oklahoma…

  Does anyone else have a problem with Fred Thompson announcing his candidacy for president on the Jay Leno Tonight Show? Rush Limbaugh today said it seems like we degrade the presidency by making such an announcement part of the pop culture. I agree. Do you?

***

Tonight on “A Conversation with Andrea and…” (streamed on the internet at Blog Talk Radio at 9 p.m. ET) I’ll be talking with Cliff Kincaid, veteran journalist and president of America’s Survival, Inc. He also edits the Accuracy in Media Report.

We’ll be talking about the controversial United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) treaty.

With the U.S. Senate set to consider the “stealth treaty” in September, opposition is growing.

Kincaid contends that the treaty constitutes a historic transfer of American sovereignty to the United Nations that will cause irreparable harm to American interests. He’s leading a grassroots movement to educate citizens about the dangers of this treaty with hopes of persuading the U.S. Senate to reject the treaty.

“The Law of the Sea Treaty will make American sovereignty obsolete, undermine America’s ability to compete for precious natural resources, impose an international tax on Americans, and transfers military duties to the United Nations. This treaty will sell out American interests. The Senate had better give this treaty a second look before it’s too late,” Kincaid says. Hit the button below to listen. Chat Room here.
