MARCH OF 1936 ALL OVER AGAIN!!!!

Near the conclusion of Tuesday night’s second presidential “town-hall” style debate, a questioner from the audience asked each candidate what he would do if Iran attacked Israel. Both candidates gave somewhat vague replies, focusing on the traditionally close relationship between the United States and Israel. In any event, if Iran ever attacks Israel, other than through its Lebanon-based surrogate Hezbollah, it will be with nuclear-tipped missiles, in which case Israel will be obliterated before the United States can respond.

The more pertinent question for the candidates is, “What will you do if and when Israel carries out a preemptive attack on Iranian nuclear facilities?” At that point both deterrence and appeasement will have failed.

On March 7, 1936, Adolph Hitler ordered his newly revived German army into the Rhineland, that strip of land between Germany and France that had been demilitarized by clauses in the Versailles Treaty, stipulating the area must be kept free of military garrisons and installations. On paper, the French and British army and air forces were so vastly superior to those of Germany that the German general staff planned a coup d’ etat to remove Hitler from power if the allies acted. France and England demurred. An emboldened Hitler accelerated German rearmament. War became inevitable.

Hitler did not believe western leaders would react because he felt they were distracted by a global depression, because French political leadership was in disarray and weak, and because other than belatedly voting economic sanctions against Italy for invading Ethiopia the previous year, the League of Nations did nothing.

Leap to 2008. Last month, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad delivered a vile, anti-Semitic/anti-United States diatribe before the U.N. General Assembly, attributing the world’s economic woes to Zionist manipulation of the global economy. He declared Israel, that “rotting stinking corpse,” to be in the throes of its last days, and predicted the impending end to the United States as a world power.

Intelligence services generally agree that Iran is six months to two years away from becoming a nuclear power. Ahmadinejad has vowed to use that power against Israel and the United States. Like Hitler, Ahmadinejad adheres to a millenarian apocalyptic worldview, and like the Fuhrer of the Thousand Year Reich, he would be just as willing to culminate his twisted vision in a horrific, possibly civilization-ending spasm of violence.

As surely as Hitler sensed Western weakness in 1936, Ahmadinejad senses it today. Following his address to the United Nations, quislings of the National Council of Churches, Mennonites and Quakers honored Ahmadinejad with a banquet. Left-leaning Christians from other denominations attended, including a trio representing the Presbyterian Church, USA, one of the leading liberal Protestant groups. Additionally, it seems Ahmadinejad follows the current American presidential race. If so, he knows that half the American electorate appears poised to vote for a candidate who opposed removing Saddam Hussein from power, opposed providing additional troops needed to implement the surge strategy and only belatedly conceded its efficacy, and also advocated unconditional talks with Tehran. Perhaps most encouragingly (to Ahmadinejad), that candidate evidently maintains a relationship with the unrepentant founder of the ultra-violent Weather Underground, University of Illinois at Chicago professor William Ayers; a man who according to a recent New York Times article, excuses bombings perpetrated by the Weather Underground based on a contrived moral equivalency between terrorism and U.S. military attacks on communist forces in Indochina. If appeasement prevails in the upcoming election, the gateway to war will swing wide in late 2008, as wide as in 1936. Another September 1939 may become inevitable.

Israel will not allow another September 1939. If the Iranians continue undeterred towards acquiring nuclear weapons, the Israelis are likely to strike; and from their perspective sooner rather than later. The vaunted Israeli Air Force (IAF) can carry out a substantial raid to degrade Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. The IAF cannot, however, reduce Iranian military capabilities enough to forestall substantial Iranian retaliation.

Iranian retaliation will attempt to further undermine the world economy by attacking shipping in the Persian Gulf along with oil fields in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States. Shi-ite elements in Iraq and Afghanistan, possibly joined by Iranian forces, will try to overwhelm outnumbered American forces. Hezbollah, stronger in southern Lebanon today than it was in 2006 when it last attacked Israel, will strike again; this time joined by a dangerous Hamas militia in Gaza. Syria, sensing opportunity, may attack from the north. An overwhelmed Israel may resort to its nuclear option.

If Israel attacks Iran, the only way to prevent a regional catastrophe from mushrooming into a global one will be for U.S. forces to join in, to significantly degrade Iranian retaliatory capabilities. Only American air and sea power can accomplish what the IAF acting alone cannot. But it will take decisive leadership in Washington to opt for “full-commitment.” Israel likely will wait for the results flowing from the first Tuesday in November before acting. If those results portend weakness and vacillation, Israel likely will strike before January 20, 2009.

Hitler’s re-militarization of the Rhineland decisively weakened France’s strategic position. France’s much-advertised and recently completed Maginot Line defenses running from the Swiss Alps to the Ardennes Forest became largely irrelevant once German troops were poised along the Rhine. Its allies in Eastern Europe grew wary of French credibility. Political leaders in Paris and London, seemingly feeling their political stature reduced, wallowed in indecisiveness. Defeatism in 1936 blossomed into appeasement at Munich in 1938 and then wilted into military collapse on the battlefields of western France in June 1940. Europe entered what Winston Churchill called, “a new Dark Age.”

Regardless of who wins the presidential election in 2008, a fragile economic situation looms on the horizon, underscoring our precarious position. Ultimately, swords—not plowshares—stand between civilization and barbarism.

Palin, Troopergate, Witch Hunts, Media Bias and Non-Issue Issues UPDATED!!

~Snooper~

Now that the invented, contrived non-issue issue of the Troopergate investigation has been conducted and terminated, we can all say (besides “told ya so”), “Move along boy. There is nothing to see here.” Naturally, the New York Slimes did print the usual hit-piece and the Leftinistra have clamored about in the hopes to take the heat off of Czarbama. One has even started the lying process that Sarah Palin “broke the law” in the firing of an unhinged fool. Photo credit goes to Newsblaze.

Macsmind smells the usual rat. As for the moonbat linked above, I am not surprised that the poor thing cited the AP article. We all know the whole thing was a witch hunt to start with and there certainly wasn’t an “independent and unbiased” investigator among the group. From the press releases, there seems to be a differing of “opinion”.

From the AP:

[…] Sarah Palin unlawfully abused her power as governor by trying to have her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper, the chief investigator of an Alaska legislative panel concluded Friday. The politically charged inquiry imperiled her reputation as a reformer on John McCain’s Republican ticket. […]

From ADN:

A legislative investigation has concluded that Gov. Sarah Palin abused her power in pushing for the firing of an Alaska state trooper who was once married to her sister, or by failing to prevent her husband Todd from doing so. […]

Yep. That is a HUGE difference. The rest of the articles vary in reporting with the AP heavily in Czarbies trousers, fishing around for one thing or another. And, let us not forget this moonbat either at SmolderingMutt Dribble: the title of the post does not support the very first paragraph of the report. The moonbats have difficulty comprehending. This is not surprising seeing that there was nothing to the Troopergate issue in the first place. Their “hero” is actually a “ZERO” and is a terrorist sympathizer, plain and simple, whether they are foreign or domestic.

From the New York Slimes, not the bastion of Truth by any stretch of the imagination, induced by hallucinogenics or not, concluded their hit piece thusly: (the moonbats missed it, naturally)

[…] But the document concludes that Ms. Palin both acted upon her public interest in seeking the firing of Trooper Wooten and created a conflict of interest by forcing subordinate employees to choose between doing her bidding and or not.

But the report concluded that “Governor Palin’s firing of Commissioner Walt Monegan was a proper and lawful exercise of her constitutional and statutory authority to hire and fire executive branch department heads.” It cites the Alaska Constitution, which says “the governor may discharge department heads without cause” and that department heads “serve at the pleasure of the governor.”

“In light of this constitutional and statutory authority, it is clear that Governor Palin could fire Commissioner Walt Monegan at will, for almost any reason, or no reason at all.”

The report states that, while there is no doubt that Mr. Monegan’s “failure to fire Trooper Wooten was a substantial factor in his own firing, the evidence suggest it was not the sole reason.” [END]

OOPS! I am inclined to agree with Macsmind: (previously linked)

[…] Oh and by the way, Steve Branchflower, the so called “independent investigator” is a registered Democrat.

Me thinks there needs to be an investigation of the investigator and how this came to be an investigation in the first place. [END]

We all know why there was an investigation. The photo above explains it all. The report can be downloaded here and I will be reading it this weekend. I disagree with ALLAHPUNDIT’S conclusion of this report here.

The report also states that the action was “proper and lawful“. I wonder how “proper and lawful” can be considered to be unlawful and improper. The conclusion I can draw from that is this: I don’t think like a moron libtard BDS-PDS infected moonbat. Other than that, I am in the clear.

Larry Johnson states:

Sarah Palin cannot expect politicians in Alaska to have her back because she took on the special interests in the Republican party and whipped their ass. Now comes the charge that she “abused” her power? Why? Because she did not tell her husband to stop complaining about her asshole brother-in-law. […]

I’ll go with that and the rest as well. John McCormack states at the Weekly Standard:

[…] Well, the facts that Wooten abused his 10 year-old step-son and threatened to kill Palin’s father might make the governor seem a tad less paranoid, but the Times buries and then fails to fully report these facts. […]

[…] More details about this specific matter may emerge today, as the Alaska legislature releases its report on the Monegan firing, but it looks like Times, at least, has produced little more than a work of journalistic malpractice. [END]

Indubitably. At PD.com, drillanwr states:

[…] I am sick of this perception that republicans in offices of power (governor … president) are not permitted to do things clearly defined in their duties. The man did NOT do his job. He was fired. The trooper had a long list of things that any one or two would have had his filthy ass out in a heartbeat … By the way, early on in this I heard one of the charges against this tasing of the child trooper who also enjoyed drinking in his cruiser, was also KNOWN to be harassing of citizens … Know who/which citizens? The indigenous Eskimo population. You NEVER hear that again or since. Never. […]

Roger that.

More moonbat pieces: PA; ABC; CBS; TL; MS; C&L; TP; DMN; WBB; NH; H&P;

Just another example of the libtards squealing…

[…] Yes, it’s true — the Associated Press is reporting Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has been CLEARED of any wrongdoing in the “Troopergate” so-called “scandal” and we should simply leave it at that — forget about the tiny “caveat” about the source; cleared is “Cleared” with a capital “C“, folks. If the governor was cleared by her own campaign, then so be it. It’s what is best for America and what we huge fans of Señor Juan Sidney McCain call “putting our country first“, as our Panamanian war hero once, or twice, or perhaps HUNDREDS of times has called upon us to do. […]

Simply amazing…these people require psychiatric help. After all, the Liberal Mind is indeed a mental illness. Gateway Pundit has a few things to say plus a video of Sarah Palin speaking about the non-issue issue. Like Gateway states, as have I and a host of others, “In other words– there was no violation. Look for the media to smear Palin from now until November over this non-scandal.” No doubt. That is all the libtards can do to win - invent issues and try and distract from real issues like Czarbie’s associations with known anti-Americanists, wanting to start his own Barackified Hitler Yoots Squads…aka Civilian National Security Forces.

The McCain-Palin Campaign Responds…

McCain

“Today’s report shows that the Governor acted within her proper and lawful authority in the reassignment of Walt Monegan. The report also illustrates what we’ve known all along: this was a partisan led inquiry run by Obama supporters and the Palins were completely justified in their concern regarding Trooper Wooten given his violent and rogue behavior. Lacking evidence to support the original Monegan allegation, the Legislative Council seriously overreached, making a tortured argument to find fault without basis in law or fact. The Governor is looking forward to cooperating with the Personnel Board and continuing her conversation with the American people regarding the important issues facing the country.”

Palin

“The so-called ‘Troopergate’ incident began with Governor Palin’s removal of Walt Monegan as commissioner of public safety. Today, investigator Steve Branchflower vindicated the governor by finding that she acted within her constitutional authority to remove ‘at-will’ employees.

“However, along with several members of the Legislative Council, we question how Mr. Branchflower reached the conclusion that Governor Palin abused her power with respect to Trooper Mike Wooten. That finding required speculation and assumptions on Mr. Branchflower’s part and could not be supported solely on the basis of the evidence that he collected. We agree with the comments made that Alaskans should consider the report in total rather than relying solely on the findings.”

Obama and His ACORNs - What Tangled Webs Are Woven

~Snooper~

In more or less breaking news, Winged Hussar 1683 posting at Grizzly Groundswell brings us news of defections from the Obama Campaign over his lack of renouncing the ACORN voter fraud scandals breaking out all over the Nation. The Google cached comments are all listed in this post and the Obama web site is being monitored for the comment deletions that are soon to come. I am sure The One cannot afford for folks to see that his implosion will continue over the ACORN debacle.

I wonder where the pollsters are. LOL! Be sure to visit there to read the comments. I would place them here but I was having a difficult time trying to decide which ones.

There can be or, there should be no doubt that Barack’s fingerprints are indeed all over ACORN. He has denied it but we all know that he, at one time, was a trainer for the ACORN activists.

Obama lied about ACORN. He lied about Ayers. He lied about Rev. Wright. How can you believe what he says about taxes, education or health care?

The only folks that can actually trust Obama are the easily duped and the emotional childlike people that cannot discern that which is evil in this world. And, Barack is an evil man. Like most other Democrat Party political aspirants, it doesn’t matter what they have to do or say to get into political positions of power. Power is all they are after. Obama has lied his way to where he is today, period. End of discussion.

Suitably Flip linked to a story I saw earlier at Ace’s place. First, SF:

[…] The avian metaphor Ace prefers is that of the black swan, but that’s inappropriate for two reasons. 1) It wasn’t all that hard to predict that Obama’s web of seediness was interconnected and 2) it’s patently racist to use the word “black” while deigning to criticize a post-racial candidate who happens to be half black. [END]

Ace has a news tip of credible origin and we should all be hearing about it either Sunday or Monday. It has something to do with ACORN…go figure.

The tip is solid, not one of those internetish ones I occasionally peddle when I’m high on modeling glue… and hatred.

10,000 duplicate/fraudulent registrations in Hamilton County (Cincinnati) and around 8000 bad registrations in Cuyahoga County (Cleveland). Cincinnati story should be out tomorrow, Cleveland one Sunday or Monday.

Ironically, ACORN may prove out Marx’s aphorism that the system contains the seeds of its own destruction. […]

This might just be that Magic Bullet. At some point, the old dinosaur media will no longer be able to shield Obama’s hoodlum activities from the American People. Until then, we in the Main Street Media will continue to hammer away.

I have known for quite some time that the DNC is crooked. We all know that the DNC runs the Party of Corruption and as the Vatican calls them - the Party of Death. That said, I ran across an interesting rumor at the Confederate Yankee that has been neither denied or confirmed by those that are theoretically involved. He links to two pro-Hillary posts located here and here. Bob wrote to Randall Samborn, Assistant US Attorney and Public Information Officer for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Northern District of Illinois and received the following reply:

“We do not confirm or deny the existence of any investigation - therfore, we decline comment and I am unable to answer any of your questions.”

That’s poli-speak for, “How in the hell did you find out about this!?” Anyway, here is the rumor.

[…] If everything rumored here is true, it looks like David Axelrod, Howard Dean, Donna Brazile, SoetorObama himself, and possibly even Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid were all involved, together, in massive RICO violations, and thus federal fraud, if the DNC and party leadership knew what the SoetorObama campaign and ACORN were up to and allowed it to proceed. Knowledge of federal crimes being committed makes all parties accessories to those crimes — and part of the conspiracy to defraud the public. […]

That is a BIG if folks so don’t get all fired up just yet. And, by the way, I have no idea what “SoeterObama” is. Theoretically, there is a missing article, missing no more, unearthed from someplace proving beyond a shadow of a doubt, Obama’s associations with ACORN. The link is located at Memeorandum so have some fun and go read it and then show all your idiot friends and relatives that are voting for the fraud.

Gateway Pundit and Riehl World View have more information to the Obama-ACORN quagmire. Obama keeps getting dirtier and dirtier. Must have something to do with the Chicago political climate he latched onto. FYI, Barack was an attorney for ACORN and was instrumental in getting folks home loans that had no capacity to pay…sound familiar? I wonder if he will deny that ACORN helped him win his 2006 election. Seeing that he is a liar, I wouldn’t put it passed him.

Is It Over?

What is the state of the presidential race? Is it over? Or is there still enough time for John McCain to “right” the ship and make a comeback?

If he knows….

….there’s only one place he’ll be saying so.

EATO?

As in “Eurasian Treaty Organization”. That sure sounds like what Czar Vladimir is “proposing”:

The President of Russia has called on Europe’s leaders to create a new world order that would minimise the role of the United States.

Confident that a row with Europe prompted by Russia’s invasion of Georgia in August was over, Dmitry Medvedev arrived in the French spa town of Evian on Wednesday determined to woo his fellow leaders into creating an anti-US front. …

In a speech delivered to European leaders at a conference hosted by the French President, Nicolas Sarkozy, to discuss the international financial crisis, Mr Medvedev sought to show that the US was at the root of all the world’s problems. He blamed Washington’s “economic egotism” for the world’s financial woes and then accused the Bush Administration of taking Europe to the brink of a new cold war by pursuing a deliberately divisive foreign policy.

He also maintained that the US was once again trying to return to a policy of containing Russia.

Somebody needs to tell Medvedev and his superior Putin that Barack Obama already locked up the Democrat presidential nomination a month and a half ago. Just as somebody needs to remind the EUnuchs that we didn’t exactly “contain” the Russians in Georgia and aren’t any better poised to do so anywhere else given how tied up we are with finishing the job in Iraq, keeping al Qaeda from conquering Pakistan, and preventing a nuclear Iran. All of which will go out the window starting next January 20th anyway. Perhaps we should call this typically crass Russian attempt to bully Europe into submission their “anti-McCain hedge”.

I’m actually of two minds as to which hypothesis this “EATO” proposal better substantiates. On the one hand, it could be indicative of Kremlin arrogance borne of the more or less blanket totality of their humiliation of the West in general and the U.S. in particular in their unopposed invasion of Georgia (though it should be noted that they have not YET taken the remainder of that country and finally retreated to South Ossetia and Abkhazia just recently). In essence, “Look at the lesson we taught the upstart Georgians: You’re at our mercy, we can take you any time we want, and your American friends can’t do a damn thing about it. The same is true of all of you, so we ‘advise’ you to take stock of where your true national interests lie - to say nothing of where you get most of your energy supplies - and come to terms with us. Or else.” Contrariwise, it might be a tacit admission of weakness in that they’re floating the flipping of Europe’s century-old alliegance as a trial balloon rather than simply handing the EU an ultimatum.

The middle ground between the two is probably closest to the pin: Moscow really can’t muscle the Euros into their orbit, particularly with the Democrat Financial Logic Bomb having impacted the Russians even harder than either the U.S. or E.U., but they’re banking on the intimidation factor from their Georgian adventure coupled with that famed European pacifist, post-modernist, leftophilic gullibility to dupe them into submission.

It sure would be interesting to see Bob Schiefer ask Barack Hoover Obama what he thinks of the Russian “EATO” proposal in the final debate, wouldn’t it? Somehow, I don’t think he’d really have a problem with it, other than Putin and Medvedev having beaten him to it.
