Clearing up the Myths About Conservatives on Political Pistachio

The Surprising Truth Behind the Myths About Conservatives

You know how it is. As Conservatives we are labeled every which way, and then some. We are, in the words and minds of the far-left, a conservative hodge-podge of Racists, Warmongers, Religious Extremists, and a group of stupid-intolerant-mean-selfish-greedy-extreme-out of touch jerks. If you are pro-life, then you must be a clinic bomber. If you don’t support the myth of Man-made Global Warming, then you don’t care about the planet and only recycle because it is either A: The Law, or B: Due to greed you recycle to get back your already paid redemption value. I have been called a homophobe, bigot, Islamophobe, extremist, and religious zealot. Fact is, the Left loves to target us with labels out of one side of their mouth, as they proclaim that labels are a bad thing out of the other side. I actually have a liberal commenter that specifically says that he refuses to use labels, but then constantly comments about me, and refers to anybody that agrees with me as “Your Side.”
S.E. Cupp and Brett Joshpe are a couple young professionals living in Manhattan, and like other Rightwing Nutjobs (to use the Liberal Vernacular) have noticed the eruption of these common and offensive myths about conservatives. In their book, “Why You’re Wrong About The Right,” they tackle twenty of the most common and offensive myths about the Right. They interviewed dozens of experts and celebrities, drawing on their collective experiences to present a fresh view of the Right. The book’s intention is to surprise, humor and educate - and it accomplishes all three.

Tonight, these two young Conservatives are my guests on Political Pistachio Radio. They will discuss their book, and discuss some of the stereotypes of the Right that have risen through pop-culture. Do Conservatives truly fit these mythical stereotypes? Or is the Left just jumping to conclusions?

Find out tonight on Political Pistachio Radio!

Teflon? How about the Crystal Candidate?

It is being said the Mr. Obama is the amazing teflon candidate. It did not seem to matter what happened. Nothing was sticking to Mr. Obama. It did not seem to matter that he was in a church for 18 years under a pastor that preached hate and division. It did not seem to matter that Mr. Obama said that he during all that time had NEVER heard those things. It did not seem to matter that Mr. Obama had and continues a professional relationship with a man that was and still is proud of his homegrown terrorist acts. Mr. Obama has yet to denounce this man and it does not seem to matter. Its like someone sprayed Mr. Obama with a healthy coat of PAM for baking!

But as time has rolled on I have noticed one thing though. Any and all criticism, questioning, disagreement or silence about anything Mr. Obama has said will be dealt with quickly and harshly! Its like his supporters and handlers are very afraid that Mr. Obama’s feelings will be hurt. Its like Mr. Obama’s campaign would be brought to a screeching halt if I said something against Mr. Obama on my blogtalkradio show. Like I have that great power. Well it took a while to figure it out but I have it!

Mr. Obama is not the great Teflon man but the crystal candidate! We must all treat him and his campaign with great care. The rough treatment that the left gave to the campaigns of President Bush and now Sen. McCain would simply destroy the campaign of Mr. Obama. According to CNN, TV One, BET, MTV, MySpace,Tiger Beat, MSNBC, Jet, Ebony,Essence, TV Guide, New York Times, Atlanta Constitution and Kayne West, rough treatment of Mr. Obama’s campaign might indeed damage the chance to make history. The delicate nature of this can not upset by asking a question about Mr. Obama’s qualifications concerning the military. Please no shouting about why Mr. Obama wants an armed non-military state-side force that will be larger and better funded than the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, and the Coast Guard are now. All that shouting will cause cracks in the crystal goblet of hope and change. The campaign has no time to answer questions about drilling! All that drilling would make too much noise! That noise might shake that goblet off the shelf of elitism and have it crash to the floor of real world! And we simply can not have that!

USS INDIANAPOLIS SINKS - 900 CREW DEAD!!!

Imagine this — you are a war weary sailor in the waning days of World War II. You’re awakened in the middle of the night by Japanese torpedoes ripping through your ship, the closest thing you’ve got to a home. Your ship is carrying a top secret cargo, the atomic bomb known as “Little Boy”, destined for Hiroshima.

Twelve minutes later, the ship has sunk, 300 of your 1,195 crewmates have been killed, and you are adrift, your wounds stinging from the salt waters. For four days and five nights, you float alongside dying men, some of the almost 600 who will perish from vicious shark attacks, dementia, and hypothermia.

The men who actually survived this hellish disaster were sailors aboard the USS Indianapolis, a cruiser headed for Leyte in preparation for the invasion of Japan, sunk by a Japanese submarine 63 years ago today on July 30, 1945, in the worst naval disaster at sea in U.S. history.

Tonight, we’re talking with one of the survivors, U.S. Navy Ensign Harlan Twible (Ret), who was standing watch that fateful night and sounded the alarm. Also joining us are former U.S. Sen. Bob Smith (R-NH) and Hunter Scott, a young man from Pensacola FL, who both played key roles in the 2000 legislation exonerating the ship’s captain Charles B. McVay III from culpability in the tragic loss of 800 men and the USS Indianapolis.

Please join us for this extraordinary program of the story of the USS Indianapolis and the man who survived the nightmare at sea.

We get underway at 9 p.m. Eastern.

THE ICON OF EVIL tonight @ 9ET with Andrea

DURING HITLER’S REIGN, there was a man who during World War II was called “the Fuhrer of the Arab world” and whose dangerous legacy lives on today.

It is said that an understanding of history is a critical predicate to the future. It applies here.

In 1921, the British appointed the most eminent and influential Islamic leader in the middle East to be the mufti of Jerusalem.

His name is Haj Amin al-Husseini and he was a vicious anti-Semite who incited riots against Jewish settlers. He was eventually forced out, only to make his way to the country whose legions he desperately wanted to join: Nazi Germany. He ingratiated himself with Hitler, and encouraged the “Final Solution”.

After the war, al-Husseini escaped charges of war crimes and fled to Egypt. His standing rose and he became mentor to a new generation of radical Islamic leaders. Foremost among them — Yasser Arafat.

Tonight we’ll hear the fascinating story that connects us to the Islamic Jihadists we now face. John Rothmann, co-author of ICON OF EVIL, Hitler’s Mufti and the Rise of Radical Islam will tell us of the link between al-Husseini and current contemporary events — notably the execution of journalist Daniel Pearl.

We’ll get underway at 9 p.m. ET, and you’re invited to join us. Come, get smarter. Just hit the button below.

Is McCain Running For Obama’s VP?

John McCain is making it increasingly difficult for conservatives to support him. His lack of passion and enthusiasm for this race has left many dumbfounded. The mainstream media’s love for Barack Obama has kept McCain out of the spotlight for the longest time, and this past week with Obama on his “magical mystery” tour, McCain was virtually nowhere to be seen.

One exception was when Obama was giving his “citizen of the world” speech in Germany. McCain made an appearance at a German restaurant…in Ohio. How lame is that?

On those notable occasions when he pops his head out of his hole like Punxsutawney Phil on Groundhog Day, McCain says things that leave many scratching their heads, wondering if he really wants to win this election. Such was the case this past Friday when he said he thinks Barack Obama’s proposed timetable for withdrawal in Iraq is on the right track, even though he spent the last week hammering Obama for his military plans.

What is that?

Obama has been calling for a 16-month troop withdrawal timetable, a view he says has been reinforced by his trip to the middle east. McCain had been hammering away at this idea, calling Obama’s plan politically expedient. Of course, the press was paying no attention to McCain until he gave an interview to CNN, in which he appeared to agree with Obama.

“I think it’s a pretty good timetable, as we should — or horizons for withdrawal,” he added, echoing a phrase President Bush used in recent days. “But they have to be based on conditions on the ground.”

Now McCain has maintained that conditions on the ground are a predicate for any reduction of troops. And he has said that Obama’s withdrawal plan is based on an arbitrary timetable without regard to conditions in Iraq.

Why then he he suddenly sounding the praises of Obama’s plan? Why is he even giving an iota of noteworthiness to an idea which could pose a serious threat to the stability of that region?

I can see the Obama campaign using McCain’s words in a television spot. “Even Senator McCain agrees with Barack Obama’s plan”, the announcer would intone.

If John McCain doesn’t want to fight for this election, if he doesn’t want to go after Obama tooth and nail and get down and dirty (which is what it is going to take to prevent Obama from ascending to the presidency), then perhaps McCain should throw his hat into the ring for another position.

Obama’s VP.

Will Democrats Jump The Shark On Energy?

shark_kayak_2_351x231.jpg

The Democrats are handing the stumbling Republicans a gift this campaign season, and I don’t mean they’re having Larry Craig fitted out with a pair of cement boots. They’re fighting the energy crisis like a bull fighter soaked in gravy and waving a spoon around - will the Republicans make the most of it? I wouldn’t bet on it, but rarer things have happened. First, starting with Nancy Pelosi, I’d suggest that we commit to memory the following words of wisdom:

“This call for drilling in areas that are protected is a hoax, it’s an absolute hoax on the part of the Republicans and this administration” Pelosi said at her weekly press conference. “It’s a decoy to punt your attention away from the fact that their policies have produced $4-a-gallon gasoline.”

And General Harry Reid:

“Coal makes us sick. Oil makes us sick. Global warming is ruining our country, it’s ruining our world.”

When times are tough, the Dems raise taxes!

The political vision of a summer gas tax holiday died a quick death in Congress, losing to a view that federal excise taxes on gasoline and diesel fuel will have to go up if they go anywhere.

Despite calls from the presidential campaign trail for a Memorial Day Labor Day tax freeze, lawmakers quickly concluded — with a prod from the construction industry — that having $9 billion less to spend on highways could create a pre-election specter of thousands of lost jobs.

Now, lawmakers quietly are talking about raising fuel taxes by a dime from the current 18.4 cents a gallon on gasoline and 24.3 cents on diesel fuel.

With Obama’s tour turning the Middle East into a Potemkin desert and the Democrats in Congress earning the lowest approval ratings since Ben Franklin sat snoring in Philadelphia, things are looking far more optimistic for the red team than it did three months ago. There’s still plenty of time to screw it up, but there’s certainly reason to surrender - fight on Conservatives!

In case there’s any question as to what started when, here’s a helpful graph that shows gas prices by party congressional control:

Over half of American voters (51%) now believe the United States and its allies are winning the war on terror, the highest figure recorded in nearly four years by Rasmussen Reports in a nationwide survey.

Only 16% now think the terrorists are on top, while 27% view it as a stalemate. Prior to this week’s survey, the number who believe the terrorists are winning had never fallen below 20%.

Last July, just 36% thought the U.S. and its allies were winning. At that time, an equal number—36%–thought the terrorists were ahead … Only 23% now expect things to get worse in Iraq, down from 49% last July.

McCain Veepstakes

Pawlenty is a no-go.  Jindal, no-go.  A lot of other names, like Portman or especially Romney, are driven by staff and consultants - not by Senator McCain. Lest we forget: it’s his opinion that matters.

Mitt Romney’s qualifications place him in the hopper for Treasury Secretary, far more so than as potential Veep.  Does anyone honestly believe that John McCain is going to willingly anoint Mitt Romney as his successor? As his potential #2? As leader of the GOP?  As the party’s presumptive nominee in 2012 or 2016?  Team Romney is persistent, if nothing else.

Sure, McCain may pick Romney - but that would be seen as a panic-driven, pandering choice to the donor class and staffers looking to pull $10,000 a month.  If you think that sounds crazy, look at the Romney expenditure reports.

McCain’s ‘maverick’ streak may lead him to pull in someone scandal-free but with access to their own national network to augment his own.  The elephant missing in the GOP primary was George Allen, who famously macaca-d himself out of re-election & a presidential bid.  However, dark horse Virginian Eric Cantor could easily tap into the network Allen was building from 1993-2006.  Allen had strong ties into Orange County, CA money that fell to Romney by default.  Not just conservative cash - but Bush Pioneers that have yet to pony up. Think “movement” + Pioneers + New Majority + Lincoln Club.

In previous cycles, the GOP nominee raised one in four dollars in California.  McCain has Schwarzenegger and his fundraising machine, but in a donor state like CA - there is more than one set of Top Tier folks in the ‘underwriter’ class.  By underwriter, I mean Billionaires that routinely Co-Chair inaugural committees and Host Committees.  These are folks who don’t talk to staff, because they don’t have to.  Billionaires do not need the permission of even the most ‘Senior Adviser’ to chat with a potential president.  And the Senator may not report back every detail to staff.  Having watched some of those folks in action, my own instinct tells me that until Senator McCain makes it official -nothing can be counted on.

If McCain chooses someone like Cantor - it please multiple classes of politicos.  Top flight donors, potential Cabinet members, and national-grade consultants who have earned their way to the top as presidential campaign advisers. Cantor has a stable of folks around him, both current and former consultants he remains close to, that could make a McCain-Cantor ticket very formidable.

And that’s just the metrics.  Cantor is in his 40s, attractive, great wife, wonderful kids.  He’s a prolific fundraiser for his colleagues in the House.  He has earned his spot on the national stage - and the chances of being Speaker aren’t so hot right now.

It would be a bold move - and McCain needs to make one.  McCain-Cantor, gosh - it even sounds good.

***According to Christoph von Marschall, who is the Washington bureau chief of Der Tagesspiegel, a German daily newspaper, Barack Obama has been snubbing the Foreign Press. Phone calls and emails ignored, and von Marschall says, “We Don’t Matter”.From STOP THE ACLU

In the Washington Post today, von Marschall writes a piece which wonders if Obama’s avoidance and refusal to answer questions from foreign journalists stems from a certain wariness about the risk of speaking to foreign media and how it can resonate back in America, and he uses the examples of Obama’s adviser Austan Goolsbee and his former aide Samantha Power, both of which made comments to foreign press and both saw ripples throughout America at those comments.

Barring that reason, von Marschall also wonders if Obama’s refusal to speak with the foreign press and answer questions from them could stem from arrogance at “being so close to power.”

Barack arrogant? Audacious? Did he just command us to genuflect?

The Forgotten Man

We are in the eye of the hurricane; past the primaries and caucuses, not quite to the conventions, debates and the general election. This should be a time for both candidates to be pounding home their messages. Barack Obama is getting all the support he needs from the mainstream media. They love him, adore him, worship him. He is the second coming of Christ, or so it is believed.

But what of John McCain?

During the primary season, when McCain had already wrapped up the Republican nomination, and Clinton and Obama were duking it out, several pundits were saying John McCain had time to just sit back, formulate policy and strategy, and get his ideas out before the electorate. But that didn’t happen. Everyone was enjoying watching Hillary and Barry fight to the last drop of blood for the hearts and minds(well, maybe not minds…after all, they’re liberals) of the democrat base. MCain was virtually ignored, save for the occasional comment taken out of context such as the one about staying in Iraq for a hundred years.

Then, once Hillary fell on her sword so that Barack could carry the democrat torch like an Olympic runner all the way to Denver, the pundits again weighed in saying MCain no longer had the distraction of the bitter rivalry between those two to get in the way of his “straight talk”. Still, nobody paid attention. All eyes were focused on the lord and savior Obama, as he traversed the countryside throwing water bottles to swooning multitudes of enthralled disciples.

In recent days, even more things have gone Obama’s way. He is going on “The Barack Obama World Tour”, travelling with an entourage of roadies which includes all of the major network TV news anchors. Probably vetting them out for a possible press secretary.

He has stated repeatedly that he wants to sit down with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, roast some marshmallows over the fire and discuss Iran’ s plans to develop a nuclear weapons program. A couple of months back, in addressing the Israeli Parliament, President Bush took a shot across Obama’s bow by referring to those who would consider negotiating with governments like the one in Iran “appeasers.”

Now, a U. S. decision to bend their policy and sit down with Iran, seems to have signaled that Obama’s ideas are not completely without merit. To be fair, the talks appear to have fizzled, indicating that perhaps the Bush administration is trying to do some “appeasing” of his own; namely with those critics who fear the U.S. is getting ready to launch a military strike against Iranian nuclear targets, or at least support a possible decision by Israel to do so. It’s a case of, “See? We tried to handle this diplomatically one more time, but they just wouldn’t listen” before the bombing starts. It still, however, is something that, on the surface, helps Obama and hurts McCain.

Couple this with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki saying Obama’s 16 month time frame for a withdrawal from Iraq is the right one, and you have a one-two punch which seems to leave John MCain unable to catch a break.

In any event, time is running out (and so is money) for McCain. He better find a way to get on message and soon if he hopes to make this a horse race. Because the way things are going now, MCain is looking more like “the forgotten man”.

GREAT READ! Spread to your friends on the blogs! Major H/T to Mike @ Mike’s America for putting me on to this nugget. Go and download the document that McCain supporters handed to reporters leaving on the trip with the messiah, excuse me, Senator.

McCain is Right. Obama is Wrong.

It is laughable that Obama supporters pretend his opinion regarding Iraq even approximates reality. Simply put, General David Petraeus - with the considerable assistance of John McCain - crafted the current SUCCESSFUL strategy. Obama has proven to be wrong over and over, except on the occasions when he arrives at positions long held my McCain.

McCain is fit, qualified, tested and ready to be President and Commander in Chief. Obama is fit, qualified, tested and ready for bu tone job: Poseur in Chief.

—Media Lizzy

ARLINGTON, VA — Today, McCain 2008 Senior
Foreign Policy Advisor Randy Scheunemann issued the following statement:

“The difference between John McCain and Barack Obama is that Barack Obama advocates an unconditional withdrawal that ignores the facts on the ground and the advice of our top military commanders. John McCain believes withdrawal must be based on conditions on the ground. Prime Minister Maliki has repeatedly affirmed the same view, and did so again today. Timing is not as important as whether we leave with victory and honor, which is of no apparent concern to Barack Obama. The fundamental truth remains that Senator McCain was right about the surge and Senator Obama was wrong. We would not be in the position to discuss a responsible withdrawal today if Senator Obama’s views had prevailed.”
