AN INSIDER’S LOOK AT THE CAMPAIGN, THE POLITICS, THE DIRT - tonight at 9 EST with Andrea
Sometimes things just fall right into your lap. It happened to me this afternoon.
I was lining up guests for Sunday night’s show. During a telephone conversation with the campaign chief of one of our presidential candidates, he dropped the name of a former US Senator who now makes his home in Florida. When I expressed an interest in interviewing him for the WDBO show, he gave me the Senator’s telephone number.
I followed up with a call and asked if he might be interested in appearing on the program. When he accepted my invitation, we chatted a while longer in sort of an informal and preliminary interview in preparation for Sunday night.
To say it was a fascinating phone conversation would be an understatement. In fact, there was so much insider political ground covered, I immediately invited him to join me on tonight’s radio webcast. He must have been enjoying the conversation as much as I was because he readily and enthusiastically agreed !
So tonight, we will be joined by former Republican US Senator Bob Smith, who has served in both the House and the Senate, representing the state of New Hampshire. Yes, the same state whose primary voters chose Her Royal Pantsuit and Sen. John McAmnesty
Sen. Smith has some very interesting observations about the current field of candidates, the primary and caucus process, the political landscape, and where all the bodies are buried.
And he’s willing to share it with us!
As a Vietnam veteran, Smith helped create, and served as vice-chairman of, the 1991–1993 Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs. Smith was reelected in 1996 and served until 2003. In his 1996 reelection campaign he defeated Democrat Dick Swett with 49% of the vote. Smith had established himself as the most conservative Senator from the Northeast, and Bill Clinton’s coattails nearly caused his defeat. The campaign’s most famous incident occurred on election night when several networks (most notably Dan Rather on CBS) claimed that Swett had won, and were then forced to admit their mistake later.
Don’t miss it — I’m guessing this will be an interesting program for all you political junkies, and anyone else who wants to know what’s cooking (or who’s cooking who) in the cloakrooms!
