Had the Congressional GOP any cohesiveness at all, other than a mindless pursuit of solidifying and perpetuating their lucrative jobs inside the Beltway, a Wild Card Candidate wouldn't have a chance.

As it is, the distinct lack of leadership within the GOP, in the bottom line, may cost them the White House in 2008. What's so astounding is the apparent complete cluelessness exhibited by the GOP members of Congress when it comes to actually listening to and paying attention to the message being sent by their Conservative constituents. It takes a massive uprising, as happened in the case of amnesty for illegal immigrants, to get their attention.

Somewhere along the way a disconnect occurred between politicians and the hard working people who elect them and pay their salaries. The politicians get elected by people because they appear to most closely represent their constituents' philosophies when it comes to running the government. But once Inside The Beltway Syndrome strikes, most of those politicians transform into elitist monsters who think that they were elected to run government according to their own (ahem) sophisticated knowledge of how the country/world works, voters be damned.

Otherwise, why would these Washington Weenies keep resubmitting legislation covering issues so vociferously protested by the voting public, such as amnesty and SChip for the middle class?

It just makes my blood boils, sometimes, and makes me wonder if it isn't time to relocate the center of the political universe in this country, away from the Washington DC elitist partying crowd.

No country can defeat us. We can crush any military in the world. But what happens when Oil stops being priced in dollars? Is our financial system as strong as our military? Russia had huge armies and thousands of nukes but their economy was weak and they collapsed from within ending in their default of their sovereign debt in 1998. Fortunately they has lots of natural resources to export and back the rubble's value and now they are on the rise again. We don't, we import too much. This will be the #1 crisis in 2008 and beyond unless we have another 9-11 size attack.
