Happy Birthday Winston Churchill!

He was a man of consummate strength and sagacity - of fierce will and gifted leadership. There are few like him in human history, but those that lead a nation through hell on earth deserve more than words and monuments - they deserve our pledge that we will never forget what they fought for […]

HEEEERE’S JOHNNY! ED McMahon joins Andrea tonight at 9 ET

Ed McMahon, famed sidekick of Johnny Carson, will join me tonight for a special webcast of “A Conversation with Andrea and …”
I normally don’t do a Friday night webcast show, but am making an exception for this showbiz legend “get”!
Ed McMahon has written about his life and times in television in When Television […]

Better than a lashing, I suppose

I’ll be the first to admit that I probably have a lot more consideration for the sensitivities of people following other religions than some of the writers here, but the case of Gillian Gibbons has left me scratching my head. Today she apparently got “off the hook easy” in a Sudanese court when she was […]

Can You Imagine People Cashing In On Congress?

Robert Novak asks whether one could imagine legendary Mississippi politicians cashing in on their legislative careers in the manner that Trent Lott will attempt when he leaves the Senate. Unfortunately, Novak seems to have forgotten that we have seen members of Congress cashing in while still in office over the last few years — […]

Hillary Plant-Gate?

Seems the entire debate can be considered fubar in light of revelations of planted questioners. I though the questions looked “scripted“.

My Thoughts

I’d say Guilliani suffered the most. He seemed defensive quite a bit. Romney did pretty well, but personally he comes off a little slick. McCain came across much better than he did in past debates, and Thompson did well with the opportunities he had, but they were few. Huckabee seemed the most relaxed. Tancredo and […]

I have to give it to..

Mitt.  But McCain came off very well. Fred actually put in a good show, but I think not nearly enough to turn things around for his current numbers. I think Rudy got hurt tonight. Nobody else really stood out for me.

28 November 2007 | Uncategorized | No Comments

Tough Call

Give it to Mitt on style points. Rudy on debate points. McCain scored on Iraq. Thompson - ultimately disappointing in that he didn’t do himself any good.
The rest are irrelvant.

28 November 2007 | Uncategorized | 1 Comment

First thoughts …

I think McCain, Romney, and Huckabee did well, Thompson did pretty well, and Giuliani struggled almost all night long.

28 November 2007 | Uncategorized | No Comments

Last Question Is Lame, Too

Because the entire nation REALLY cares about the Yankees and the Red Sox. At least Giuliani had fun with it.

28 November 2007 | Uncategorized | No Comments

Maybe if they hadn’t wasted so much time at the beginning …

we wouldn’t be running over now.

28 November 2007 | Uncategorized | No Comments

Confederate flags?

Another crypto-Democratic moment. It’s a poor way to conclude this debate. Lame. Thompson has the best answer, but Romney did well, too.

Stars and bars question

Oh yeah… no bias by CNN there.
I rest my case.

Why Don’t African-Americans Vote Republican?

I know what my answer is — we ignore them, for the most part. Most of these candidates refused to appear at a debate specifically targeted towards African-American voters. Rudy is talking about welfare reform and crime control, which is a good answer, but without engaging the voters, we can’t dent the Democrats’ […]

“Popular with Republicans”

Popular with SOME republicans.
And I support gun rights but is it really necessary to see Rambo up there cocking his gun?

28 November 2007 | Uncategorized | No Comments

Huh? (Part 2)

Rick has my jaw dropping. Let’s quote this again…
Most of these questions were desgined to trap the candidates into answers popular with the GOP base but not very popular with the country as a whole.
Were there any questions possible that could please you? They’re either democratic gotachas or they are… huh? Designed to prompt answers […]

Cool Question On Human Space Exploration

It’s an interesting question that would not likely have been asked in a traditional debate format. Huckabee volunteered Hillary to be the first person to step on Mars’ surface. Tancredo makes a good point about trying to be all things to all people.

28 November 2007 | Uncategorized | No Comments

CNN

chooses questions that elicit responses from candidates that damage them with the rest of the country.
Do you believe every word of the bible? Was the earth created 6,000 years ago?
The very act of approving that question is insulting.

28 November 2007 | Uncategorized | No Comments

Huh?

So it’s CNN’s fault that Republicans give answers popular to their base? Am I missing something here?

28 November 2007 | Uncategorized | No Comments

Ed gives CNN too much credit

The tone of these questions was night and day different than the ones presented to the Democrats.
Most of these questions were desgined to trap the candidates into answers popular with the GOP base but not very popular with the country as a whole.
The Democratic questions were designed to get the candidate talking about the issues […]

Gays In The Military

Sorry, Duncan, you lose me there. Unit cohesion was the excuse used for segregation, too. Romney may be closer to the truth in that war is a bad time to make a change, but eventually gays will serve in the military — but he sounds like a flip-flopper.
I’m with Barry Goldwater. […]

It was a good one.

Not too much silly stuff, but some very “human” personal questions. Good job for most of it, but I think Cooper was weak spined in keeping timing, etc. under control. Still, informative and allowed most of the candidates to showcase their positions.  I give the entire debate positive marks.

re: Romney Scores on McCain

Jazz, I don’t see how McCain scored. He put words in Romney’s mouth that he never said.

28 November 2007 | Uncategorized | No Comments

Almost Over …

And I have to applaud CNN. With a couple of exceptions, CNN has done an excellent job in this debate — and frankly, the questions are perhaps the most substantive of any debate so far this year. I am very, very impressed.

From a Waterboard Survivor

Have to beg to differ, was in on a few “ticking” situations in the early 80s.
I was WB during SB training. Yes I volunteered, but it’s not the worst we went through in during the training.
Remember, it’s only been done three times in the last five years.

Rudy Finally Finds Himself

Good answer on using 9/11. Rudy has been running mostly on his pre-9/11 record, but most people haven’t been paying attention.

re: Romney Scores on McCain

Sounded kind of the opposite to me. McCain scored big there and people responded. Oh wait… Rudy is talking about 9/11 again so I nede dto taaake naothere drkk

WE ARE NOT OCCUPYING ANBODY’S COUNTRY!

Ron Paul is truly an idiot. To believe that having a base with 20,000 airmen in Saudi Arabia was akin to occupying that country shows Paul to be unworthy of any office above dog catcher.

Main Event: Rudy V Mitt. Undercard: McCain V Paul

It’s interesting to see how much of this debate has focused on these four men and two intramural catfights.

Romney Scores On McCain

Romney has this issue exactly correct. The Geneva Convention does not, in fact, bar waterboarding specifically. Pol Pot did not kill 2 million Cambodians through waterboarding. We should not start defining these techniques on national debates for the reasons Romney said. In fact, Romney never said he supported waterboarding — he […]

Torture is torture

Everything I’ve read on the issue from the professional interrogators indicates we dont need torture to get the information.
And yes, waterboarding is torture.
McCain is right - Jack Bauer is fiction. There is never a ticking clock scenario. And what some of our people have done at various places around the world has redounded to our […]

White Smoke… LOL. As a Catholic, thats funny

28 November 2007 | Uncategorized | No Comments

Rudy disappeared

Romney - better. Huckathing - still oozing. Thompson - not making the most of his opportunities but not too bad. McCain - not enough chances to shine.
Paul, Hunter, Tancredo - get off the stage please

With exception of the illegal immigration exchange with Romney, Huckabee is knocking it out the park.

Huckabee Rescues Rudy On The Bible

Romney gets stuck on this question, while Huckabee bolsters Rudy’s answer of allegory and interpretation. Huckabee, as he often does, gives the best answer on issues of religion.
More importantly, why did CNN include that question? Does it make a difference? We’re not electing a pope here. No white smoke arises from […]

Misunderstimating language

I noticed Huck couldn’t pronounce irrevokable. I started to comment that I wished our candidate choices could speak better. My friend John, sitting next to me cut me off, saying, “Bush got elected.”
 I shut up.

CNN anti-GOP propaganda

That question was ridiculous. It was meant to show christian conservatives as a bunch of goober chewing, crotch scratching, cousin marrying yahoos.

Here comes the Kos Kids

Another dumb question from the Christ-Bashers.
Most likely stole it from a pew.

28 November 2007 | Uncategorized | No Comments

Stupid Atheist Question

Snide, and unnecessary.
What Jesus Do? Is irrelevant. The WWJD movement was a Christian “hobby horse” for a while. The answer is, “Who knows”.
Yet the Bible is clear on capital punishment.
Notice that while on the cross he didn’t commute the death sentences of the thieves.

28 November 2007 | Uncategorized | No Comments

The Death Penalty — WWJD?

The first crypto-Democratic question hits the screen at 75 minutes. “For those of you who call yourselves Christian conservatives” — can’t you feel the contempt dripping from the recording? And did you all notice that CNN didn’t play the video all the way through?

28 November 2007 | Uncategorized | No Comments

What would Jesus do?

“Render unto Ceasar” would seem to indicate that Jesus would let the state do whatever it wanted.

On abortion. Just killed his standing (if he had any) with the pro-life crowd.
