***By my reckoning, though, FDT is still ahead of Romney in THE national poll.***

Romney, Thompson, McCain and Huckabee are all within the margin of error of each other.

I'm actually a Rudy fan, but Tagg Hewitt's commentary is simply an exercise in wishful thinking. If Huckabee and Thompson grab a bite of the southern and social conservative voters, Mitt's in deep trouble. And a few months in politics is an electoral eternity. A couple of interesting news cycles and any one of these guys could win the nomination.

It's convenient to think that an early lead in Iowa is the key to the White House, but President Howard Dean disagrees.

[...] reaction: I see via Jim Geraghty that a Fred Thompson enthusiast at HeadingRight.com has slapped that label on TAS. Oddly enough, the only cited example of “Rudy backers” in these parts is a link [...]

[...] It’s long been established that Hugh Hewitt is in the bag for Mitt Romney (the book on his campaign was a faint clue), and AmSpecBlog is favorable to the candidacy of Rudy Giuliani - of which my taking whimsical note earned me some honest-to-goodness anonymous notoriety as “a guy at Heading Right” and “a Fred Thompson enthusiast,” respectively.
