FREE REPUBLIC CONSIDERING LAWSUIT AGAINST BILL O’REILLY & FOX AFFILIATE
FreeRepublic.com, one of the most popular and influential conservative political websites, held a press conference Friday morning, August 17th to announce its intention to sue the Fox News Channel, Fox News host Bill O’Reilly, the local Washington DC Fox affiliate WTTG, reporter Sherry Ly and other involved parties, for defamation.
Defamatory statements by Bill O’Reilly were broadcast on the Fox News Channel’s The O’Reilly Factor on or about July 31st when he compared Free Republic to DAILY KOS, a left wing website.
WTTG broadcast defamatory statements on or about August 16. The TV station has pulled its video report from its website. Included in the report were comparisons of Free Republic to hate groups like the KKK, according to Free Republic’s Kristinn Taylor, who says he was never contacted for comment when the report was being prepared.
Kristinn Taylor is the Washington D.C. coordinator and media spokesman for Free Republic, one of the most popular on-line forums — rated the #2 political website by Nielsen. He’s demanding that both the local Fox affiliate and the O’Reilly Factor retract their statements, offer a very public apology and donate a substantial amount to a pro-troop charity such as Soldiers Angels. Kristinn will join us Sunday night on “The Andrea Shea King Show” on WDBO AM 580 in Orlando Florida to talk about it.
Free Republic is actively involved in several pro-troop activities, including Friday night vigils at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, as well as the upcoming Gathering of Eagles Pro-Victory Rally set for Sept. 15th in Washington DC in support of the troops and victory. It is timed to coincide with Gen. David Petraeus’ Report to the Nation on the status of the war.
The pro-victory rally will be joined by Move America Forward’s Fight for Victory Cross Country Caravan, which is expected to include thousands of participants at 27 stops across the United States. The Caravan is being coordinated and led by retired Air Force Lt. Col. Buzz Patterson.
Here’s the report. You decide.
