Juan Peron With Great Hair

I was going to post something on Opie Edwards’ latest gaffe about slamming Hillary! for taking twenty grand in campaign contributions from Rupert Murdoch after the Breck boy himself did a nearly million dollar book deal with Harper-Collins, a publishing company owned by….Rupert Murdoch.  Then I changed my mind.  I mean, how much hypocrisy can one man commit?  It’s like reporting that the sun rises each morning.  After a while it just isn’t news anymore.  And besides, it’s not as though Edwards has a front-runner status to lose.  Piling on him again would be like putting Jacques Cousteau at the bottom of the Marianas Trench without a bathyscape and then boasting you’ll “drown” on him by taking a leak into the ocean.  Besides, that’s Dean Barnett’s gimmick.

J-Ger managed to find something original to say about Opie today - that while he is and always shall remain an also-ran, the gaping chasm between what he says and what he does will never earn him the tarring & feathering (PR and otherwise) he, um, “richly” deserves.  But one of his readers did him one better - or, rather two:

I’ve long thought, and your recent post confirms it, that John Edwards is unique among frontrunner US candidates but he’s not unique among North American.  He is almost totally in the model of central and South American politicians who get elected by their pandering to the poor, while more interested in consolidating their own power.  Edwards is a caudillo.  I’m sure he’s thought of a really fancy general’s uniform for when he becomes Commander in Chief.

This, sadly, is my less cynical way of looking at him.  To be honest I think he’s in it all just for the money.  He’s playing a game and making all sorts of speaking and book deals, with very little cost to himself. Running for president is a better money maker than personal injury law. And much more respectable.

Kind of like Bill Clinton without the actual electoral victories.

Rubin vs. Geraghty

Whose Top Ten List on the GOP primary debate is better?

Sorry, Jen, but J-Ger’s leaves yours in the Ron Paul seats.
