From an email reply to a Republican Forum colleague and potential co-host:
Regarding Hillary! and Obama, that one’s easy to analyze: he’s her stalking horse. He’s going out there as the callow youth over his head saying what the nutroots want to hear while she triangulates off of him to appeal to the general election center. That solidifies her already-solid hold on the Dem nomination, and in return she’ll pick him as her running mate as a sop to those same nutroots in order to set up the ultimate “historic” “diversity ticket” to disarm the GOP from taking them on on pretty much anything for fear of being denounced as “racist” and “sexist.”
My original prediction for 2008 was George Allen and Condi Rice on the Republican side, which was waaaaaay off. But for the Dems my pick was….Hillary-Obama.
I guess my magic 8-ball doesn’t work with my own party….

07/30 - SHOIAB CHODHOURY* DR. RICHARD BENKIN
SHOAIB CHODHOURY was arrested in 2003 by government agents as he was about to board a plane for a speech in Israel. The arrest was carried out in cooperation with Islamist forces because of his advocacy of relations with Israel and interfaith understanding based on religious equality, and his articles exposing the rise of radical Islam in Bangladesh. He was tortured and held for seventeen months and only released after strong pressure by Congressman Mark Kirk (R-IL) and human rights activist Dr. RICHARD L. BENKIN, who leads the fight for Mr. Choudhury worldwide.

Two writers from the Not-Exactly-Conservative Brookings Institute suggest that it just might be. Michael E. O’Hanolon and Kenneth M. Pollack conclude their NYT opinion piece with this:
But there is enough good happening on the battlefields of Iraq today that Congress should plan on sustaining the effort at least into 2008.
