FDT should address the questions being raised. No legitimate candidate should receive a “pass” when an issue is raised about his background. But, IMO — Romney deserves neither “credit” for raising the question nor the slur within your subject line.

Why does Senator Thompson have to dignify an at best undersubstantiated and ever-shifting allegation? To which the subject line refers, by the way, as you appear to have missed.
I can understand why Romney, who would otherwise be benefitting predominantly from John McCain’s implosion, is anxious to slow Thompson’s current momentum. But by *any* means necessary? Including low-ball tactics the other side would use? Doesn’t he have to take responsibility for 11th commandment-breaking carried out in his name?
On the other hand, this would be a step toward addressing his “too nice to beat Hillary” problem….
