WHAT’S YOUR STATE DOING ABOUT IT?
Reading this post about what other states and communities are doing to deal with the growing problem of illegals in our communities, I began wondering “What’s Florida planning?”
Oklahoma is taking illegal immigration seriously. Since the Feds will not enforce the current laws, citizens are taking matters into their own hands, forcing local and state officials to pass sweeping laws to deal with the problem. HB1804, known as the Oklahoma Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act of 2007, is scheduled to take effect Nov. 1. It makes it a felony to knowingly transport, move, conceal, shelter or harbor an illegal immigrant. The measure passed 84-14 by the House and 41-6 by the Senate. The Governor is a Democrat and was unenthusiastic about signing the bill but had to because it passed in the legislature by a No Veto margin.
The new law will allow police to check on immigration status as well as handing employers stiff penalties for hiring illegal workers.
Citizens of Arizona have forced their officials to take action too. A new law just signed by Democrat Gov. Janet Napolitano makes it a state crime to hire illegal immigrants and requires all businesses to verify the employment eligibility of workers through a federal database. Beginning in January, if they are caught hiring illegals, they face having their business licenses suspended for up to ten days and a three- year probationary period during which they would be required to report new hires to prosecutors. Second time violators would have their business licenses revoked permanently.
Is Florida considering similar legislation?
In Hazleton, Pennsylvania, the mayor and city council have voted to enact ordinances that require every prospective renter to appear at city hall to provide proof of citizenship or the legal right to be in the United States, and penalize businesses that hire illegal immigrants and landlords that rent to them.
I think we’re getting a glimpse of what’s about to happen all over this Nation, not at the Federal level, but at the STATE level. The citizens are taking back their communities. (Something about the 10th Amendment???)
My question to you is this: What is YOUR State doing to prevent illegals from living and working in YOUR COMMUNITIES? Has YOUR legislature proposed any legislation to address this? Has YOUR governor?
I WROTE TO MY STATE SENATORS ASKING THEM. FEEL FREE TO USE THIS POST AS A TEMPLATE TO WRITE TO YOURS.
WHEN YOU FIND OUT, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I’ll be discussing it on my programs and interviewing legislators and city officials who are taking the initiative that our federal representatives aren’t. Join me on my radio program (Orlando WDBO - Sunday nights) and on my weeknight internet radio program where we’ll begin exploring what our local governments are doing about the illegal immigration problem.
