Aftermath
As a milblogger, I’d rather eat lint than vote for John McCain. Especially after his creepy stare-at-the-camera pandering. Jumping in out of turn made him look too eager and arrogant as well. All in all, he came in looking like a buffoon.
Romney…loved the “he will die” line. My livingroom erupted into shouts of “OOHRAH” and “HOOAH” on that one.
Ron Paul: Someone needs to be a friend to this man and tell him to go home now.
Thompson: Just because I’m from Wisconsin doesn’t mean I like the guy. He flubbed. End of story. He looks like he got run over by a Hummer a few times.
Hunter: This man just plain rocks. Wish he could have chosen his words just a bit better though. Ran out of time before making points.
Brownback: Who?
Gilmore: Who again?
Tancredo: Tom, my man. You did not do well, dear. Sorry, but that was a nail in your coffin. Too bad…I love the man on immigration.
Who else was on there? That should tell you how effective they were.

The thing with Ron Paul is that on the biggest issue, Iraq, he wants to take the troops out immediately. He does have a point, as far as the Constitution is concerned, that we could have had Congress make a formal declaration of war so many years ago. The reality is that we are there now and the job has to be finished.
But, as far as his voting record as a Congressman, you know that he will follow the Constitution. For me, that’s ALL I want the government to do. Stem cell research? Why should I have to pay for it? National ID cards? Cmon, does anyone really believe there’s such a thing as tamperproof? Recently, one hacker was able to crack the HD-DVD encryption and post THAT online. Do you think government would do a better job protecting your personal info? Inflation IS a tax ,especially on the poor, because the price of goods go up and the purchasing power of the dollar is decreased. Dr. Paul is correct, but to explain why takes more than 30 seconds. He did a poor job on that.
I live in San Diego and Duncan Hunter has been around for years. He’s a good man. His positions are a little too mainstream for me. (As you could probably tell)
Tancredo is a one issue pony
Romney probably had the best outing tonight, except for the George Hamiltonesque tan (which made him look a little too slick imho) his soundbites were delivered clearly and with no nasty aftertaste. Seemed very polished.
McCain should be the one to go home. Even the questions that Matthews asked him that weren’t stupid, his answers were really non answers. And, as Ann Coulter says, Do you really want a candidate that the MSM loves?

I wanted to congratulate all of you folks that contributed to the BlogTalk Debate Recap. Great job!
I missed the debate and rushed to get onto BlogTalk and caught most of your commentary. I really felt like I got a good take on the debate and who did well and at the same time, I felt somewhat relieved that I didn’t have to sit thru an evening of Chris Matthews!
Thanks to all on the Debate Recap show - it was terrific but it was too short! Any thoughts of doing a next day recap for an hour????

Duncan Hunter would make a great Pres and a lot of his fellow Namvets are pulling for him. I wish he had a more commanding/charismatic stage presence. As it is I think the best we can hope for is that if Rudy gets the top slot he’ll be smart enough to choose Hunter as his running mate. A Fred Thompson/Michael Steele ticket would be better, though.

I’m hoping that Duncan Hunter can stay in this race and that people will start paying attention to the man. He is a solid conservative from a state with a lot of votes. If Tancredo would drop, the “border votes” should automatically go to Mr. Hunter. It is going to suck, suck, suck, if I have to vote for McCain or the NYC Mayor dude (can’t spell his name) in the general election. I really don’t want to do that. I want Duncan Hunter there.

Go, Hunter!
I love Brownback and Tancredo on some of their issues. Brownback’s not good on on security-great opn everything else. Tancredo’s great on security-don’t know what else he’s about.
This is the first time I’ve seen Hunter-didn’t watch the last debate.
Hunter’s great on the issues, speaks clearly, has a record for credibility, and a great stage presence.
Go Hunter!

OK - I didn’t even know that Fox News was going to host the Repub Candidates tonight! But WOW, it went much better than last weeks. Did Duncan Hunter rock or what!!! Get out the news on him people!! But too bad he keeps getting less face time from the likes of Hannity who just can’t seem to get enough of Guliani.
Speaking Guliani, he did MUCH better tonight than last week especially when he put passifist Ron Paul on the spot but then again Guliani that is the only strong point Gule’s runs on - other than that he is soft soft soft on immigration (which is a security issue too)abortion and other public policy.
Romney did well - but I’m still gunning for Duncan Hunter.
Tancredo did MUCH better tonight and was able to answer cross the board questions with stronger points and less stumbling in his communications…but he has a tendency to shift his direction in his responses so I don’t think he is a strong candidate despite he is very spot on and strong about immigration.
Huckabee, is another sleeping giant…did very well tonight.
Brownback…Ok he is somewhat “Goresque” but he is actually a good strong candidate.
Gilmore…just didn’t do it for me. But again people need to get past the popularity of Guliani and Romney and take a good hard look at Duncan Hunter. I think if I saw a Hunter/ Romney ticket I’d be pretty thrilled.
