OBAMA HAS GOT LONG LEGS
I think Obama suffered from having to go first on that particular terrorism question. That and the fact that the guy straddles every single issue and question that confronts him. He definitely has mastered the art of saying absolutely nothing while sounding mezzo profundo. The answer to that terrorism question is a perfect example. He took all of talking points the Dems have been using against Bush for 6 years and wrapped them in a nice, neat package while being able to allude to Katrina (competence) and later, his clear preference for asking the world’s permission before hitting back (”building alliances and trust”).
I disagree it was any kind of a major gaffe if only because no one watched the debate and press coverage has been perfunctory. That said, the Hillary camp has unsheathed the long knives and it should be interesting to see how Obama responds (or doesn’t) when she starts really ratcheting up the pressure, jumping on every little supposed gaffe and putting Mr. Smoothy on the defensive.

Obama’s main task, in my opinion, is to get the Dem nomination and to get that, he can be as limp wristed and wishy-washy as he wants to on the Terrorism and global jihad issues - he doesn’t need that strong stance to get the nomination. His major problem though is the Clinton Campaign Machine (otherwise referred to as the Machine of Intimidation and Death). I see little chance of Obama winning the Dem nomination in the end but if by chance, Hillary’s past did come out at the very end…and Obama got the nomination…well
Then it would be party Time!!!! Obama’s absolute disdain for and aversion to address the global war on terror and global jihad, would sink his ship in a general election.
My prediction if Obama gets nomination:
Thompson/Guiliani/Romney 56% of the vote
Obama 42% of the vote
With Hillary instead of Obama:
Thompson/Guiliani/Romney 48% of the vote
Mrs. Clinton 48% of the vote
And the decider will be the state of ….drum roll please…….Florida
