RE: Senate Vote

Senate votes for cut and run, largely along party lines (exception made for Chuck Hagel who isn’t a republican).

More notable is that McCain missed the vote. What in the hell is this guy good for? Abslolutely nothing.

Anyway, 51-46, not even close to override a veto, nevertheless, McCain might as well pull up the stakes now.

  1. Steven Donegal says:

Curious about something–why doesn’t Bush just sign the bill along with a signing statement saying that he won’t be bound by the intrusions on this authority as commander-in-chief? If you read the bill, the withdrawal provisions aren’t mandatory anyway. He’s not going to win the politics of this. Politically, it all depends on the effectiveness of the surge. Given the ineffectiveness of the Maliki government (did I really just see that their Parliament is taking the next two months off?), even if the surge provides the “breathing space”, there is little likelihood of a functioning government emerging. Why not just take the money, ignore the withdrawal provisions, hope the surge works, and then pray for a Maliki miracle. It’s really all he’s got.
