A couple of hours ago I returned from Los Angeles with my wife. We were there so that she could take the oath of citizenship of the United States of America.
After they repeated the oath the new Americans waved little American flags and cheered loudly. I turned to the man sitting beside me whose wife was also taking the oath, and like me, his eyes were filled with tears.
We recited the pledge of allegiance with the new Americans, sang the National Anthem, and cried to the song “God Bless the USA” by Lee Greenwood.
I met up with her moments later and my wife was grinning from ear to ear. “I can vote,” she said. “I can vote.”
Mrs. Pistachio will talk about her experience of becoming an American and her powerful American pride on Political Pistachio Radio this Saturday.
God Bless America.

With ya Bright, that was brutal. Still think they missed out not having Fox host it with Hannity moderating.
By the way Don Surber has a paraphrased version.

I can’t take the so called “debate” (from my former home city) more than a little bit at a time. This is the biggest group of disingenuous, BDS sufferers ever assembled in one place. If there is one clue among the entire group, I haven’t seen the evidence yet.
The hard part is deciding which one is the sorriest of the lot.
ADDED: That was just perfect. John Edwards (I’m paraphrasing here) was asked who is your moral authority? He just stood there like a deer caught in the headlights for an awfully long time. Now that made me laugh.

Via Drudge:
“Tenet says to have the president base his entire decision to go to war on such a remark is unbelievable. “So a whole decision to go to war, when all of these other things have happened in the run-up to war? You make mobilization decisions, you’ve looked at war plans,” says Tenet. “I’ll never believe that what happened that day informed the president’s view or belief of the legitimacy or the timing of this war. Never!”
Tenet is going on 60 Minutes Sunday(gives you a clue on the overall tone of the book), yet Tenet smashes the sacred cow of liberal contention here about why we went to war.
For the longest time we’ve heard that the “Slam Dunk” comment WAS the primary reason Bush decided to go, yet Tenet’s assertion completely demolishes that amateurish and uniformed belief.
Might be the only bright spot in the book.

Senate votes for cut and run, largely along party lines (exception made for Chuck Hagel who isn’t a republican).
More notable is that McCain missed the vote. What in the hell is this guy good for? Abslolutely nothing.
Anyway, 51-46, not even close to override a veto, nevertheless, McCain might as well pull up the stakes now.

Kathryn Jean Lopez at The Corner has posted the link to the roll call vote on the “troop exit bill“.
Hagel (R-NE) and Smith (R-OR) are the two crossing the aisle.
Graham (R-SC), Johnson (D-SD), and McCain (R-AZ) did not vote.

The headline of this Yahoo News/AP story is quite telling:
Senate expected to pass troop exit bill
My emphasis. If you were under the impression that this bill was about funding for the troops, well, you would be wrong. The funding is only being used as a political football to push the agenda of surrender and defeat.

Dear Colleague:
This week I intend to introduce Articles of Impeachment with respect to the conduct of Vice President Cheney. Please have your staff contact my office . . . if you would like to receive a confidential copy of the document prior to its introduction in the House.
Sincerely,
/s/
Dennis J. Kucinich
Member of Congress
Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio), the most liberal of the Democratic presidential candidates in the primary field, declared in a letter sent to his Democratic House colleagues this morning that he plans to file articles of impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney.
Kucinich has made ending the war in Iraq the central theme of his campaign. He has even taken aim at the leading Democratic presidential candidates in the field for their votes on authorizing the war.
Denny boy….are you ok? Are you really sure you live in America?
Kucinich hasn’t given any clues, but his dead-on-arrival impeachment plan most likely focuses on accusations that the vice president misled the United States into war with Iraq
Someone tell me how Cheney could mislead? He’s not the commander the leader or anything but a VP! Impeach Bush if you want too ,but I think you are being ridicules much like the rest of your current party members…but you a loon from loonsville.
Find something else to do!

What does everyone make of Chris Muir’s Day by Day cartoon this morning?
Hillary in black face?
Considering how we conservatives trashed Jane (”you ignorant slut”) Hamsher for photoshopping Lieberman in black face, shouldn’t we police our own and give Mr. Muir a few well chosen jabs for his insensitivity?
As I point out in my blog post, there is more than political correctness at stake here. The Minstrel Show - which is where black face comes from - did more than any other American institution to spread the black stereotypes we’re so familiar with today.
So…am I off base? Am I a politically correct closet case?
Let me have it…
UPDATE
Allow me to slightly alter the focus here. My beef with Muir is that black face - in any context at any time - is a negative cultural construct; a clear reminder of times that most of us should be ashamed of. Regardless of the excellent arguments being made both here and on my blog, we should always keep in mind the impact that these images have on people.
This is not political correctness per se, although there will be some racialists who would use Mr. Muir’s depiction to advance their own political agenda. Being sensitive to the real feelings of others is always the right thing to do regardless of intent or context.
